1) Tell us more about your role & responsibilities at your college.
I will not deny but our role and responsibility do differ from that of a normal college student.
I have to play the role of normal student and complete my assignments, give internals, make sure my attendance is complete and on the other hand I have to make sure that my society work is also going on smoothly.
Since , I am the President of the Economics society one of the most important responsibility that I have is to make sure my society members are learning something new and at the same time they feel free to express their selves. I firmly believe that being in a society brings out the hidden talents of an individual and makes them more confident about voicing their opinions and suggestions.
Also, our society mostly consists of students from first year it becomes even more important for me to become a welcoming and patient towards them so that they don’t fear about anything in the society.
2) What’s it like to juggle between a leadership role and a normal college life?
It sometimes get extremely overwhelming to be a leader but when we have to be normal student we need to be a little more towards the ground. I will be completely honest but in these 3 years it has happened so many times that I have missed out on something or the other in either of the 2 roles.
Sometimes I had to miss important lectures just to make sure that the work of the society is getting completely. But nonetheless, it's been very exciting to handle two roles and manage everything.
3) Do you enjoy the kind of influence you hold at such a young age?
Yes, I really enjoy the kind of influence I have. I believe that I do influence people to overcome their fears such as that of public speaking or giving suggestions or taking up charge. But as much as I enjoy it I am also aware about the fact that I myself have to be very careful of my actions as there are a lot of eyes on me and my a wrong step can affect the members of my society in a way that I don’t want.
So I believe that being able to influence others is a privilege as but at the same it can be a burden also.
4) Do you have a message for parents to allow their kids to do things beside academics?
I strongly believe the academics is one of the most important part of a students life. Parents being concerned for their kids do pressurise them to focus of studies more rather than these co-curricular activities. But they must realize that these activities are also very important as it helps in the personality development of an individual. It helps the students enhance their communication and leadership skills and also make them patient and great problem solvers.
5) What did you do in your current role that makes you feel really proud of yourself?
Being an office bearer for 3 years now, I have made my contribution in organising some very successful events in these years. I have learned how be patient, how to stay calm in various situation, how to find solutions to problems that occur out of nowhere.
But a thing I am proud of is that I have never given up, there were times when none of our events were going as planned, some where on the verge of getting cancelled, sometimes we didn’t had a plan. But I made sure that I motivated others to stay calm as well and not give up, rather think of solutions to get out of those problems.
6) What’s your message to encourage students to do internships and attend conference?
I I think everyone should join some kind of internship during their break as it gives them real life exposure. They make you more responsible and also help in sharpening your skills. It also teaches great amount of life lessons like how important it is to be punctual, what are the consequences of not completing your work in time etc.
If we talk about conferences, I think all of us should go to them not just to gain knowledge but also to make contacts. Conferences gives us an opportunity to find our interest and also make us meet some great talented minds, which can give us inspiration and motivation.
Both of these things helps an individual a lot in terms of their personal and professional growth.
