1. Tell us more about your role and responsibilities at your college.

It is a matter of immense pride for me to hold the position of the President at The Commerce Society of Kirori Mal College ( session 2019-20 ). The society organises two events annually that attracts students from all colleges of Delhi. We also hold speaker sessions where in students are enlightened by the knowledge of various note-worthy professionals.

I, as the president, make sure that the organisation works smoothly and that the society grows and maintains the standards set by our previous members. It is also my responsibility that the Society contributes to the personal development of each and every member in every way possible. The most important task is to keep the group together and maintain an environment that is friendly yet professional.

2. How can we encourage more young students such as yourself to take up leadership role?

A true leader is a guide, a friend and a motivator who makes sure that his subordinates not only do the work alloted, but also learn and enjoy while doing it. Leadership is one skill that can only be developed while you are actually at the job that requires it.

Every person who aspires to rise through the ranks and be successful in a corporate structure needs to have leadership skills. Infact, All B-schools and Corporates prefer candidates who can showcase leadership skills in their application.

The motivation to be a leader needs to come directly from the person who is leading them. Only when they see, what it is like to be a leader, can they be inspired to become one.

3. What have been your biggest challenges and learning from what you do?

The more you learn, the more you realise that there is still so much to learn and reflect upon. I learned about the importance of adaptability and flexibility required in leadership after heading two dissimilar organisations, a college society and a startup. The leadership of a college society should allow its members to make mistakes and simultaneously learn. Whereas in a startup, which has limited resources, the leader should have more control and prioritize on efficiency and effectiveness.

4. What are your career goals and how is what you are doing is going to help you with that?

Although still contemplating, I'd like to build my career in the field of Consulting. I have been a part of multiple organisations throughout my college life including social ventures and startups.

Each one has helped me to discover new traits about myself. They have taught me that knowing how NOT to do things is as important, if not more, as knowing how to them. And whatever career path I choose to pursue, these learnings would always help.

5. What's your message to encourage students to do internships and attend conferences?

As a fresher, nobody is really sure as to where their interests lie and what career path they want to eventually pursue. College life is not just about the academics but about the opportunities to learn that you get in the form of internships. Graduation is the time to explore and one should not restrict oneself from trying new things because there is no real opportunity cost while one is still in college. "Network. Network. Network", this needs to be the goal for every student out there. The easiest way to build your network is by doing internships and attending conferences.
