1. Tell us more about your role & responsibilities at your college?

I was the PR and Marketing Mentor at Enactus Thapar and right now looking after the Marketing department of OWASP Student Chapter which is an elite coding club of Thapar University. Along with this, I am the marketing Head of Sakonsa - an NGO that works closely with UN India and research Interns at Policy Monks. It's been two years that I have been in the field of Content Writing and Digital Marketing. I have interned at 6companies till now and now working as a full-time intern as a digital marketing intern at Techies InfoTech. I have a huge interest in Indian politics and have actively participated in MUNs. Nowadays, I chair online MUNs.I am also working on a book "Hinduism and Modern Science". Actually, just after my first semester, I came to the conclusion that electrical engineering is not for me! So, I hate going to classes.

2. How did you rise up to your position and how can a student aspiring the same, approach it?

So, my father paid around Rs. 2 Lakh fee for my first semester and I could see his pain. That was the time when I decided that I will also contribute. I was good at content writing and public speaking. During the first semester, I did some unpaid content writing internships and started participating in MUNs. At the end of the first semester, I got my first paid content writing internship where I got Rs. 3000 per month while winning the MUNs, I used to earn around Rs. 5000 - Rs 10,000 (depending on the cash prize). Within the next year, I scaled up my skills, learned digital marketing, tried my hands at coding also but just gave up! So, I think it's all about becoming proficient in your skills. There is a lot of competition in the market but you need to upgrade your skills timely. And for that, you will need the constant support of your seniors!

3. What have been some of your biggest challenges and learnings from what you do?

I took electrical engineering because my father is also an electrical engineer at Municipal Corporation Amritsar. Initial plans were to take up the GATE exam and get a government job. My parents were against my content writing internships and MUNs till the first year. So, at that time I started to hide the things from them. I used to attend MUNs but tell them that I am in a workshop doing a project. It was during my second year when I paid my full college fee by doing content writing and digital marketing freelancing. Also, I have invited as chairperson at IIT ROORKEE MUN and other MUNs as well. This was the time when I sat with my parents and told them about my earnings and achievements. Told them I am not interested in doing a job in electrical but will surely get placed. My parents were quite convinced and today they support my every decision. So, you don't have to show your mettle to the whole world but to your parents who will actually support you even if you fail.

4. What did you do in your current role that makes you feel really proud of yourself?

In OWASP, I organize online discussion forums with my juniors on various political topics and then have a special "Mahabharat/Ramayana" session at the end of entertainment. At Sakonsa, I am working on our campaign #FeedTheNeedy where we are collecting funds to feed the poor migrant workers. At Policy Monks, I work on policy briefs and doing research on government policies, giving recommendations, etc. I feel proud of doing something for the society and at the same time spreading the knowledge of our culture to my juniors through discussion forums. I really working on policy briefs that suggest the government on various issues.  In the end, it's all for my nation.

5. What's your message to encourage students to do internships and attend conferences?

When Ram was in Ayodhya, he was just called Prince Ram but when he went to exile and returned back, he was called "Lord Ram" because he moved out of his comfort zone and faced every difficulty. Today, the youth is so busy on social media but doesn't want to go out and meet people, face the challenges. All the things that I have learned until now are just because of MUNs. I met people from law, engineering, economic background, politicians as a chief guest, etc. All these things give you the energy to do something for your country and your dreams. Watching Netflix won't do anything but going for a MUN will surely do wonders. So, meet more and more people. Go out and attend conferences. Apply for internships and never hesitate to ask your senior for help. Don't follow the herd. Just listen to your heart, make one goal, be clear about it, and start working for it!
