1. Tell us more about your experience as an educator.

After stepping into this world of education, I started believing that every person possesses the power to transform the world into a better place. I feel everyone wants to do this but the only question in our minds is How to do it? I also had the same dream to be the cause of a transformation and when your motives are pure, you have overcome the fear of the failure and when you have the right motivation, you will surely get the way.

I already became one of the popular faces in my field after I started my own YouTube channel: Vaishali’s e-Learning, which has more than 300 free video lectures and the intent was to help people, I was not afraid even if no one will watch my videos and I was lucky enough to get the right guidance, and this is just the beginning of the big transformation that I want to cause in the world.

A teacher is the one who teaches you something or the other and if you see in your surrounding, every person you know is a teacher. Now as a profession, I feel we should give the same teaching to the students like the way we give to our family members. We share our experiences with them and we possess the power to show “Our version of the world” to them. Your discipline will be giving a subconscious message to the student’s mind to follow discipline, your knowledge will open their brains and your behavior will shape their personality. This is a big responsibility.

Being a teacher is not just a mere responsibility, you have to perform numerous roles, at a moment you are spreading knowledge, then you should be a good presenter, then the academic roles, then you have to become strict and the very next moment you have to spread love. So with my experience, I felt that we are a very important stakeholder for society and our actions have a direct impact on the world and there is an inbuilt power of transformation associated with this profession. It's up to you now how you are using your power.

2. What is your opinion of the Indian education system and how would you like to change that?

With the draft new education policy released, I feel really happy to answer this question now. Some very beautiful changes are already been proposed but I guess the problem never lies in policies, it is there in the system. Policies, if implemented right, can surely change the way we see our education system altogether. We all know the number of engineers produced by India and we also know the unemployment rate in India. So the scope of improvement is there.

We all know what all problems we are facing, our family is facing due to Covid-19. As education is our fundamental right, we saw the rapid entry of e-Learning methodologies like we have never thought of. More and more universities and even students are now adapting to online education. But there is a need for a workforce, who are professionals in this. One can be a very good orator but can not speak to the camera. We need special training of our educators and proper guidance and exposure must be provided. I know I am emphasizing on online education but it is not because it gave me publicity but because it is the need of the hour.

Yes on the student’s point of view, it has some limitations but when we want to see Digital India, why we oppose Digital Education? It will reduce the cost of education.

Students have the ambition to get hired by big companies, so the right curriculum must be designed.

We have to purchase technology, why can't we create technology like that of defense equipment locally? We need to emphasize more on genuine research.

3. What changes in the teaching methodologies have you seen in recent times?

I feel any topic must be presented in the way that the smartest student will not get bored and the weakest student will understand it well and for this purpose, I have witnessed the use of technology that can create a magic effect.

I used Light-board in my videos which is a new technology for our country. When students get amazed by the way you write on the screen of the camera, they tend to feel it like magic and will learn the topic with more interest.

On the other hand, When you use light-board, You don’t have to turn back when you write, so you can make a continuous connection with the students.

I have further used animations and green screens so that I can deliver the best of lectures. Further recorded PPTss are also a new thing, which can be tried.

4. How does education help one do well in their career?

Whatever I have achieved, is due to education, so with my own example, I can state that it can transform anyone’s life. Education is not just the knowledge one gets as a student, it shapes his personality, it makes him understand the world. I feel when you want to get success and avoid silly mistakes in life, you should keep an experienced person close to you and the success will become sure.

Educators are those experienced people in the student’s life who can shape their future. I get disappointed when society feels it is the duty of the teacher to teach them when society converts education into a business when students are made to your customers. Your teacher is that experienced person who will become your bridge to success so education will not just provide students the career but also they will tackle all obstacles they will encounter in life. So in my opinion life long learning is the way to achieve everything and anything.

5. Do you think teaching as a profession is viewed at par with corporate jobs?

I never witnessed the corporate world although, during my graduation, I had a dream to work in corporate jobs. But as I entered in the post-graduation and I started getting teaching assignments (I was the part of a scholarship in post-graduation and to avail that, I had to perform teaching-related tasks), I started liking it, I always liked to interact with people but this was another thing.

I used to feel connected to the students and this opportunity came during my post-graduation only. I got the platform to get selected as an assistant professor, I gave my best and got the offer letter before even finishing my post-graduation. I was sure I will be happy if I will become a teacher and I feel this thing should happen. If this is the last option for you or you are just coming in this profession because you don’t want to work with the deadline environment of the corporate job, then think twice.

6. How can we adopt technology to make teaching more effective?

I will give the example of light-board, green-screen, animations that I use in my video lectures. In light-board, we just use the total internal reflection property of light and magic will happen on the screen. It can be used in the live classroom as well where the teacher can maintain a constant connection with each and every student in the class, while the mirrored image of the board is shown to the students.

We all feel when we will turn back to write on board, students will get distracted, but when you are continuously having eye contact with them, their minds will wander, and avoid it a lot of universities are already using it. I will be really happy if I get to teach students on light-board in a live class.

7. Why does India need more educators like you?

I have started my own platform to provide free of cost education to the students without any kind of partiality or any other motive in my mind. I have treated each student equally. Whether the student was from my college or my university or my state or my country or a complete stranger, around 300 video lectures are available on my channel for everyone who wants to learn and are completely free of cost. I tried to help every student in every possible way and tried to shower my love and compassion on all of them.

I know how to present the given topic so that anyone can understand it, my whole energy is engaged in providing free e-content for students, and at last because I am here because I love doing it. It is my choice to be an educator.
