1. Tell us more about your role & responsibilities at your college?

I was Elected as Student representative and Council member during the final year of Under Graduation and was responsible for the Discipline of Students during my tenure. My title was Assistant Discipline Coordinator and I was supposed to work under a head called Discipline in charge. I had closely worked with several heads of the department and was involved in various activities.

2. What's it like to juggle between a leadership role and normal college life?

To be honest, at first, it was really fun to carry such a title among your friends but with the time you find it really hard when you need to put all the other things behind and your duties & responsibilities first before everything. Sometimes I missed my regular class hours due to which my grades happened to be affected.

3. What have been some of your biggest challenges and learnings from what you do?

My biggest challenge was to maintain time and being punctual, which does not co-inside my actual character, but I’ve learned to manage it by the end of my tenure. The next big challenge was using effective and appropriate communication at the time of requirement because when you are a discipline in-charge there is a lot of chance for people to mistake you.

4. What are the top skills that you have learned with what you do?

When you are in a Leadership role, you get to learn many things, which would help us in the long run. There were many things I’ve learned, but from all those here are few which have been the major undertakings from my role:

  •  Definitely Leadership skills
  •  Effective communication and Diplomatic relationship management
  • Word load balance
  • Interpersonal skills

5. How can we encourage more young students such as yourself to take-up leadership roles?

Leadership is nothing but that small initiative you take to represent your group which comes with a small bit of responsibility. Practically speaking taking up leadership roles will definitely enhance you as a person and gives you the experience you need in the next stage of your life. Of course, it also has it perks like adding weightage to your CV and increase your employability chances.

6. What are your career goals and how would your role as a student leader, go to help you reach the goal?

My current career goal is to settle in an organization on the Management board where I can drive the business and take decisions that takes the company forward. As said earlier my student leader experience has seriously boosted my employability and provided me with several skills that are required in later stages.

7. What's your message to encourage students to do internships and attend conferences?

Internships are sure shot boons that most of our earlier graduates didn’t have. Doing an internship not only gives a certificate but also provides you with real-life work experience with unexpected opportunities and exposure.
