Based on American Novel
Dil Bechara is based on the American Novel "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green and it was also made into a Hollywood film of the same name released in the year 2014. Sushant Singh Rajput makes sure that he captures the heart of audiences through his fun and quirky portrayal of Immanuel Rajkumar Junior aka Manny.
When we get a glimpse of Manny onscreen, he comes across as a typical fun-loving boy who loves flunking classes in college. He even loves to irritate his professors and is a die-hard fan of Rajinikanth. In the same college fest, Manny accidentally meets Kizie Basu portrayed by debutante Sanjana Sanghi.
Kizie Basu appears as a calm and composed teenager, unlike Manny who has a carefree attitude. She is battling from thyroid cancer for a very long time and her only companion is Pushpinder, her oxygen cylinder. Manny suffers from Osteosarcoma due to which he lost a leg, yet his courage is intact.
SSR Deserved Better
It sometimes makes me angry and sad at the same time, why did the author made two people fall in love with each other when one is destined to die leaving the other one. We all are destined to leave someday and we must make sure that we make the best out of it. Carpe Diem!
I wouldn't say that this film did justice to the excellent actor that Sushant Singh Rajput was due to sloppy writing and excessive drama. I think he deserved better.
We'll Miss You
Manny and Kizie's friendship started to brew as they met again in the same cancer support group. At first, Kizie came across as an introvert but after interacting with Manny she started to be more fun and lively. Manny made Kizie agree to act in his film as his heroine.
And after that, they started to spend most of their time together.
Their relationship starts to brew as they roam along the alleys of Jamshedpur on Manny's scooter, shooting for the film. Kizie at first was afraid of getting in the relationship as she knew that one day, one of them has to leave, but somewhere along all this Kizie realized that she has fallen in love with Manny.
Dil Bechara has broken many records since its announcement. As a tribute to Sushant Singh Rajput, the film was made free on Hotstar for viewers worldwide. Millions of fans waited to witness the magic of Sushant Singh Rajput for the last time onscreen.
Swastika Mukherjee and Saswata Chatterjee splendidly played their role as Mrs. Basu and Mr. Basu.

They played the imperfect yet perfect caring parent for Kizie Basu. Mrs. Basu was the typical Indian mother who doubted that her daughter lost her virginity when she sensed that she has grown closer to Manny and at the end of the film she teases her daughter when she senses that she and Manny have slept together.
Manny while spending time with Kizie comes to know about her favorite singer Abhimanyu Veer and both of them with Mrs. Basu travels to Paris to meet Abhimanyu Veer.
When they come back from Paris, Manny's health worsens and informs Kizie that he may die soon. Manny passes way battling his cancer leaving Kizie alone. Manny asks her "Will you miss me?" - We do.
The departure of Manny feels personal as we all feel the absence of real Manny and his mannerisms. I remember Manny telling that "Janam kab lena hai aur marna kab hai yeh hum decide nhi kar sakte, lekin kaise jeena hai woh toh hum decide kar sakte hai" giving everyone a sense of hope.
Seri Manny, we'll miss you.
