Work from home, online schools, colleges, tuitions, not being allowed to step out of homes has led to a prominent increase in idling, sitting, lying around. Not only it has made everyone slack but also caused a lot of weight gain complaints. With the increase in the number of cases, there is a visible decrease in curves.
As the lockdown continues, gyms, outdoor playing places are shut down. Physical movements like walking and jogging, have decreased significantly. Also, an increase in anxiety and stress, contributed to unhealthy schedules, eating habits.
Maintaining health and having a strong immune system is essential for facing a pandemic. It’s still not late to take measures and become fit again. Here are a few things you can try to get back again:
- Indoor workouts
Become your own trainer. You can carry out simple workout routines in available spaces. You can do easy yoga-asanas, Surya namaskars for change. Sure, you have to push yourself a little harder but stakes are higher here. All you have to do is to take small efforts every day.
- Try online classes
There are several expert trainers, practitioners who put online workout tutorials, simple improvised exercises. Even you can get workout designed for yourself on many of these platforms. You can try youtube for free and short videos, curefit and google fit platforms provides good guidance and services.
- Control your cravings
Harder than it sounds. Sitting on the couch and not chewing on something, seems a little odd. With idle mind, cravings are sure to come but with the heavy heart, you have to say no to them. As there is already, not so much to munch on, focus on rewarding yourself after completing tasks.
- Diet
If you were on diet earlier, it might not be possible to continue provided limited supply of vegetables, fruits etc. But don’t worry and try to make the best of whatever you can get your hands on.
- Drink water
Nothing works like water when it comes to health. Water keeps you hydrated, cleanses the body, solves half of the health problems. Most importantly, it helps with digestion. So, drink at least 8 glass of water every day. You will notice the change for sure.
- Adapt and improvise
Survival of the fittest as Darwin said. Accept the situation, make some adjustments in the surrounding, some in you and create a different lifestyle for yourself. Terrace/balcony as gym, columns, bars, table, chairs as props. Use your mobile phone as a sound system.
- United efforts
Respecting Aristotle, let’s be social. If it’s hard to motivate yourself, here is what you can do. Find workout buddies or exercise buddies, keep each other motivated, help each other. If you have siblings or life-partners challenge them, place bets and see how it goes for you. It is a perfect couple goal.
- Use social media
Couldn’t find anybody among family and friends? Don’t worry, you have your followers. First, follow people who take fitness seriously. Follow their steps, create online challenges like most pushups, fittest of all etc. Your following and followers will give you almost everything required.
- Maintain record
Keep a journal or diary with you. Write your food intake, workout done, goals to be achieved, goals achieved every day. Not only this will help you to monitor yourself but also brings a sense of satisfaction required to keep going.
Hope you find this useful. Best of luck ahead!
