Graphic Design is like magic. Once you choose a good niche and have a desire to build up a career you just have to be patient, connect a few dots and see the magic unfold. It’s a combo of advertising media & digital media for me.
After completing my boards I was stuck what am I going to do for the rest of my life? Every day, the same question hit my mind for the next six months. I was doing nothing, rather than laying in my bed, watching movies & web series. One day, one of my tuition friends suggested me to do a graphic design course from an institution.
After that, I started researching more about it. Luckily at that time I was good in sketching and was so excited to know more about this world, so that’s when I took a course of graphic design and web development from Arena Animation Ahmedabad. Right now I am a 20-year-old boy who’s still exploring in graphic design and let's see where it all goes.
2. What is the role and scope of work for a graphic designer?
Graphic Design is like magic. Once you choose a good niche and have a desire to build up a career you just have to be patient, connect a few dots and see the magic unfold. It’s a combo of advertising media & digital media for me.
If you love and are interested to know how all the typography, digital illustrations, posters are made, what are the ethics, then you are on the right train to join the graphic designing.
3. Which are some of the tools & software that a graphic designer must be aware of?
I love to work on Adobe creative cloud which includes almost every software a graphic designer must-have. Currently, I am using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro.
If you have a low budget then one can use Coral Draw which is similar to Adobe Illustrator. You know what matters is your thought process, ideation, concepts & your creativity.
4. How in your opinion has this profession changed over the years?
Graphic design is changing daily for me. Every day there’s something new we see, something that blows your mind. The more you go deep, the more you Explore. I would say that there are still different niches which are yet to be explored in Graphic designing.
In India, people are still exploring this profession so it's kind of new. Once you choose to do it you know it’s like an endless black hole of creativity.
5. Do you often have to keep upskilling yourself?
Surely. We need to update ourselves daily, like every other profession. It’s like we update our cell phone software to see what new features have been added to what new concepts are added. Learning new skills and designing is a must.
6. How can one develop a keen sense of design and aesthetics?
Practice, Practice, Practice and Practice more. It doesn’t matter that if you are bad at designing. When you design and work every day, your design will get better. Most important is observing the things around you.
Watch good designers, follow them, see how they are working. Take daily challenges which will help you to think more creative; a personal recommendation. Keep sharing your work with creative people and learn from them. Travel a lot & collect different perspectives.
7. Which is your favourite book and why?
I personally like to collect books but then I never read or I only read a few. My favourite book would be “Who Says You Can’t? You Do by Daniel Chidiac. The book teaches “When you don’t set up something to look forward to, the little things frequently get to you.”
When you continue to focus on what you want, your whole body language, vocabulary, tone of voice, and even subconscious movements all shift to mould you into the person you need to be.
