In the world of social media, you need to constantly stay on top of things, ideate, research and present campaigns and concepts all day long. However, this is a part of success and hence, awareness, research and a positive mindset, helped the most.
1. Tell us more about your company and your journey.
Social Media Dissect is like my infant currently. It is an online platform where we dissect and review everything ranging from digital content, offline content, TV commercials to print ads, guerilla marketing and beyond.
My goal, as the founder of Social Media Dissect, is to educate consumers on what makes campaigns great, how different aspects of social media work and the nitty-gritty of the industry.
We, as a company, seek to empower our community by helping them put their best foot forward with our consultation services and reviews.
My journey, like any others, has been of several ups and downs. Through more than 8 years of experiences, I’ve learnt several aspects of marketing and social media that I love to share with my audience and hence, the existence of my Dissect community helps me reach my aim to inspire people through my opinion on content and marketing.
2. How did you come up with this idea and go about executing it?
I was always very particular about my work and believed I could do more than what my job offered. I came up with the idea as I wanted to be independent and run my own agency. While the thought wasn’t always at the back of my mind, I saw how no one actually reviewed content on Instagram.

I always had this ability to stay in trend and loved my job as a social media marketer for clients in an agency. Hence, Social Media Dissect just started out as a page to bring the marketing community together to make sure they do not miss out on what is important to them, to talk about plagiarism and to voice their opinions on trends and campaigns.
So, with the thought and aim to bring more clarity to people by presenting my learning in an easily accessible format, I started the business. Initially, I hired one person to help me out and scaled it from there.
3. What has been your biggest challenge that you faced and how did you overcome that?
My biggest challenge that I faced was to keep up with the constantly fluctuating trends and algorithms.

Apart from that, monetising the page was difficult as growing an Instagram page that people could rely on and also consider seriously, takes a lot of time and effort. So, I think my belief in myself and my work helped me present unfiltered opinions/content for the world to see! Hard work, perseverance and consistency surely helped!

I feel one should always think about ways of creative income from other streams by investing in different verticals and diversifying into different fields/platforms to sustain your business.
Most importantly, the saying ‘Save more, spend less’ usually should be considered if you are starting up. One should save more in order to invest for greater returns. We can be cost-effective by analysing the importance of the expenses we usually need to make and reduce on the unrequired ones.
