Ankit Madaan - Be Consistent With the Delivery of Your Promises

Our boxes have been received with immense love and mirth. We started with curating stationery items, but now we have evolved, providing our buyers with a platform in the form of a journal to showcase their creative works of art and literature.

1. Tell us more about your company and your journey.

PaperQuirks started with the idea of providing a one-stop solution for stationery lovers across the world. Paperquirks has been curating stationery of various themes since February 2020, presently in India only.

Every month comes with a new theme. Our boxes have been received with immense love and mirth. We started with curating stationery items, but now we have evolved, providing our buyers with a platform in the form of a journal to showcase their creative works of art and literature.

We hope to be able to collaborate with local artisans in the near future.

2. How did you come up with this idea and go about executing it?

We had been in the industry since 2014. However, we had been supplying office stationery. We wanted to add art to their stationery and in doing so, bring together all the stationery lovers.

As we were already supplying one of the renowned Indian Book Subscription Boxes and with their support, we started with the social media promotions.

3. What has been your biggest challenge that you faced, and how did you overcome that?

The biggest challenge was to ensure we were meeting the high expectations of our customers. As a company which listens to its customers, we were responsive to the feedback we received along the way.

Presenting our customers with what they liked and curating products closest to their imagination was sure a challenge which we took great pride in and took up.

4. What do you think are the most important qualities of a successful entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur must learn to take calculated risks. A good entrepreneur should also listen to his customers and be respectful to their needs. History stands witness to companies which did not pay heed to their customers' needs and failed in the market.

Believing in your goal and working towards it never failed an entrepreneur. Lastly, being a patient always has its fruits.

5. What are some of the most important factors for running a successful business?

Successful businesses are run on the foundation of great teams. A good team could influence your brand value as much as the quality of your product. Being prude with money helps as much as listening to your stakeholders does.

Keep your vision clear and goals clearer. Map out your milestones and work to acquire them in steps. We are still on the path of becoming successful.

6. What are your tips for the first time and aspiring entrepreneurs?

Be conscious of your promises and consistent with the delivery of your promises. Be in touch with your stakeholders, listen to their feedback and be responsive to them. Manufacture quality product/services.

Dream and work towards them. Map out a plan B. Nothing replaces a great team. So, invest in building one. Be respectful to your team of workers. Last but not least, take calculated risks.

7. How can one overcome a hurdle of lack of funds when starting up?

You could start by saving up before investing or by approaching angel investors.
