Ankita Srivastava - Just Because Something Is a Health Food, It Doesn’t Mean That It’s Healthy for You

People equate losing weight with gaining health, you want to lose inches sustainably and gain health at the same time. 600 calories a day will, of course, make you lose weight but I will tell you what more they lose - their peace of mind, quality of sleep, skin and hair, energy and sometimes even confidence

Tell us more about yourself and your profession.

Hie, Thank you. My name is Ankita Srivastava, I am a 23-year-old graduate in chemistry and currently pursuing my masters in clinical nutrition and food dietetics. I am a certified cosmetologist and I have been a model for about 4 years.

In the second half of 2019, I decided to pursue being a dietitian full time and ever since I haven’t ever looked back. It’s my life, and I am very lucky that nutrition found me. I consult and educate people regarding the basics like hormones and gut health. I believe in a holistic approach and not isolated or band-aid approach.

I believe the body can heal, and it’s a miraculous body that we live in. That’s my motto - help people realise that healing lies within themselves.

What is your fitness mantra?

Intuitive eating, not dieting. Eat the damn cookie, have your cake and know when to put the spoon down.

Please tell us your experience as a Student in the "Clinical Dietitian" field.

It’s been a learning experience. Every person, every problem, every sickness - brings a lesson with it. I have met some of the finest people thanks to my profession and I feel so blessed to be able to help someone get their health back.

I have about 1000 testimonials on my IG account from clients all over the world, it’s overwhelming and makes me the happiest person alive haha.

What are some of the major misconceptions about diets and exercises?

Just because something is a health food, it doesn’t mean that it’s healthy for you. EVERYBODY is different, you can’t follow a fandoms youtube weight loss video and achieve health.

People equate losing weight with gaining health, you want to lose inches sustainably and gain health at the same time. 600 calories a day will, of course, make you lose weight but I will tell you what more they lose - their peace of mind, quality of sleep, skin and hair, energy and sometimes even confidence.

Don’t run after fads, sit back and listen to your body it’s always speaking to you.

How can one build a successful career in your field?

Every the patient is a family member, listen to them, make them believe in their body and if you don’t know what to do be honest and guide them towards someone who could possibly help them.

Which is your favourite book and why?

I love The mind-gut connection by Emeran Mayer. We don’t think food affects the mood and vice versa, give this one a shot. You will feel differently about your food and what it does to the body.
