Babak Fathollahi

I'm a Persian photographer and Director/ Visual storyteller based in Iran, Tehran. I was born in Tehran in 1990.

1. Tell us about your background and journey. 

I’m Babak Fathollahi, Born on the 2nd of December 1990 in Tehran, My studies were about Computer and I studied in this field but I was interested in art especially photography and painting since I was a child. 

2. How and when did you realize your passion for photography? 

I was studying photography since 2008 by self-studying and I took self-portraits for a long time, also I took portraits from my close friends and my ex-girlfriend, and by the time I became interested in portrait photography. 

In 2010 I decided to continue photography as a professional and I decided to be a portrait photographer. 

3. What are some tips you would like to share with amateur photographers? 

The best advice that I can give to amateur photographers is to searching for finding their voice in photography, and don’t give up and trying for progress. I advise them to learn photography techniques as much as they need but they should spend most of their energy on their individual development. 

4. What are the important skills one should have to be a successful photographer or Visual storyteller? 

The best and the most important skill is storytelling, you should always have something to tell in your profession, you always have to define your relationship with the surrounding world with the help of photographs. 

5. What are various opportunities available for aspiring photographers? 

There are always varieties of different opportunities for us, we just have to be alerted and wise enough to recognize the opportunities and using them. 

6. What has been the biggest learning from your experience? 

The biggest learning was from my experiences was my faults and failures, I personally learned a lot of things in my life from my bad experiences and failures in my job, and I believe that the best teacher for all of us is our faults in life. 

7. Which is your favorite book and why? 

I recently have read the book that its name is “everything is fucked” by Mark Manson, I personally believe that everyone in today’s world should have read this book.
