6. Why women with PCOD gain weight and what diet should they follow to control it?
There is no one definite cause of PCOD. The way I look at it is, it's because of hormonal imbalance and improper lifestyle that leads to weight gain. Insulin resistance is the leading cause of PCOD and If we help women to get rid of only 5% of extra weight, IR and PCOD can be fixed to some extent.
Women need to follow a healthier lifestyle, stay away from stress and include breathing exercises and strength training to their daily schedule. This will definitely help them fix PCOD.
7. What is one piece of advice you would like to give someone who wishes to lose weight?
I would say, losing weight is not just one month or one-year commitment. It’s a lifestyle. Losing weight is not being healthy. You need to focus more on your health markers like energy levels, Immunity, sleep patterns, mobility, strength and how you feel.
Be consistent and follow a sustainable diet and lifestyle that you can follow for the rest of your life. Don’t get into the trap of crash diets, Yo-Yo diets and shortcuts.
8. How do diets and exercise contribute to overall well being and happiness?
We are what we eat. Our body creates new cells and tissue from the food we eat. We need to make sure what we eat is full of nutrition, all balanced macronutrients and micronutrients.
Not only diet, but our body is made to be moved around. The exercises we do help us to control the hormones and other vital functions of the body. Exercising helps us to stay away from lifestyle-related health issues and mental stress.
So a balanced approach is necessary when it comes to staying fit.
