Familiar With The Urban Acronym LotRo?

For those of you aren’t, it means Lord of the Rings Online. We have all been very well accustomed to the epic fantasy series of novel written by J.R.R. Tolkein which is named as Lord of the Rings. LotRo is a massive online multi-player game based on J.R.R. Tolkein’s fantasy world developed by Turbine.Inc.

Meet Gandalf

In the world of the Lord of the Rings, Gandalf is one of the characters who is showcased to be an elf with magical powers. His name literally translates to ‘Elf with the Wand’. Gandalf’s original name was supposed to be ‘Bladorthin’.

The original name of Gandalf, ‘Bladorthin’ was not fully lost; it was later used by Tolkein in the books to name an ancient king. If you’re a fan of Lord of the Rings, these things shall not be alien to you.

History Of The Bladorthin

In the middle earth, Gandalf was also known as the Istari, one of the five wizards. In the third century, the Istari were “angelic spirits” sent by the Valar (almost like Gods) to support men and elves in the war against Sauron. The appearance and emotions of men were given to these Istari, not only to behave like a familiar face, but also have the ability to relate to them.

These empathetic feelings were very important to the growth of Gandalf, as his love for Hobbits play a major role in the story’s grand scheme. Saruman, Radagast, Alatar and Pallando were the four other Istari sent to Middle Earth.

In this way, many lore buffs get upset with the understanding of Turbine’s lore, which allows the Lore master and the Rune keeper to exercise control, which will possibly cross the line into the territory of Istari. Saruman soon became head of The White Council after his large knowledge of Sauron and the Rings of Power (after Gandalf rejected Galadriel’s initial recommendation for this position).

It was when Saruman was finally eaten up with the evil of Sauron and formed the Orc-Kind armies that for many, many years plagued the free peoples. This section is important to remember as it defines the everlasting struggle of Gandalf with the thought of sacrificing his own and eventually, he remembers his original refusal for Saruman to take the place of the White Council.

One day after Thorin Oakenshield had been bumped in by Bree’s Parcing Pony, the two talked about the very real possibility that the great Smaug dragon would devastating land near the Misty Mountains, particularly the Rivendell Elve Metropolis.

His interests lie primarily in the recovery of the area’s lost Dwarven territories and old, forgotten treasures of Erebor. Thorin agreed to help. Gandalf’s love of hobbits led him to hire one careless Bilbo Baggins to rob the great dragon of the treasure, which gave birth to the Erebor Quest – and finally to the Hobbit.

After this incident, Gandalf spent a great part of his time looking into the danger of the revival of Sauron and the roots of the ring which Bilbo said was Gollum ‘current’. Gandalf still believed that the ring of Bilbo was the one True Ring, since Gandalf possessed the fire ring Narya.

After the true power of the Ring has been revealed to him once again, he finds himself gathering and defeating a group of adventurers. Saruman had at one stage tried an alliance with Sauron to win his old friend Gandalf. Gandalf was arrested because he refused, but finally the Great Eagle Gwaihir was saved.

Perhaps one of Gandalf’s most famous confrontations comes with his fight against Balrog. Gandalf was drawn into the abyss at Khazaddum Bridge, just after uttering one of his most famous lines, “Fly you fools!” though Gandalf and Balrag did not die in fall, they finally killed both of them in the next battle.

Fortunately, by Galadriel, Gandalf had another chance, but he became much stronger this time. Gandalf the Grey was no longer, as Gandalf the White was now called: Saruman’s true successor. He continued to fight several major fighting against Saruman and Sauron powers, and finally saw Sauron collapse once the ring in Mount Doom was destroyed.

Gandalf spent about 2000 years in Middle earth, with Frodo, Bilbo, Galadriel and Elrond, and retired across the sea in the undying lands. After that time the rest of the centre earth eventually discovered that he had a power ring. Gandalf can be found in Lord of the Rings Online in Bilbo’s Room in Rivendell’s last homely house.

Found in the Elrond Library, previously he had been transported to the Mines of Moria with Book 14 in preparation for the journey of the fellowship. Hope you enjoyed the LotRo Lore.
