Navratri 2021- Chaitra Month and Its Significance

Navratri is the time when the two rituals meet. In this pact period, infinite forces from the universe reach us in the form of energy.  Mainly we know about two Navratras - Chaitra Navratra and Ashwin Navratra.

Chaitra Navaratri marks the beginning of summer and Mother Nature undergoes a major climate change.  It is a popular belief that following a fast during Chaitra Navratri prepares the body for the upcoming summer season.

Chaitra Navratri -

It begins with Chaitra Shukla Paksha Prathama and ends on Ramnavami. This year, the Muhurta of Chaitra Navratri Ghatasthapana begins on 13th April and ends on 22nd April. All nine forms of Maa Bhagwati are worshiped in Navratri.  At this time people perform specific rituals to receive spiritual energy.  The forms of the Goddess are cultivated in this ritual.

According to Hindu Puranas and texts, Chaitra Navaratri is the most important Navratri in which Goddess Shakti was worshiped. According to Ramayana, Lord Rama worshiped Goddess Durga in the month of Chaitra and killed Ravana.  For this reason, Chaitra Navratri is celebrated with pomp across India, especially in the northern states.

This Hindu festival is very popular in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.  In the state of Maharashtra, it begins with "Gudi Padwa", while in southern states like Andhra Pradesh, the festival begins with "Ugadi".

  1. First Day - Pratipada - "Ghatpatna", "Chandra Darshan" and "Shailputri Puja" are performed on this day.

Importance of Navratri -

1. Astrological importance

From an astrological point of view, Chaitra Navratri has special significance because the Sun changes during this Navratri.  The Sun completes the journey in 12 zodiac signs and then enters the first zodiac Aries to complete the next cycle.

Aries, both the Sun and Mars, have fire elements, so their coincidence begins with summer.  From the Chaitra Navratra, the calendar of the new year begins to be calculated.

From this day, the king of the year, the minister, Senapati, Varsha, the owner of the planet of agriculture are determined and in the year the assessment of peace, wealth, trade, and happiness is done.  The reason for the worship of Goddesses and Navagrahas in Navratri is also that the positions of planets remain favorable throughout the year and remain prosperous in life.

2. Religious significance

From the religious point of view, Navratri has its own importance because at this time, Adhishtik, who has covered this entire world with his illusion, the creation of which is being done by the power of God, who is the Goddess who gives enjoyment and salvation, she is worshiped on earth, hence she is worshiped. And from the worship, the desired fruit is received sooner than other days.

As far as Chaitra Navratri is concerned, from the religious point of view, it has special significance because Adityakti was revealed on the first day of Chaitra Navratri and started the work of creation of Lord Brahma at the behest of Goddess.

Therefore, Hindu New Year begins with Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. Lord Vishnu was established on the third day of Chaitra Navratri by taking the first incarnation in the form of Matsya.

After this, the seventh incarnation of Lord Varshitha, which is of Lord Rama, also took place in Chaitra Navratri.  Hence Chaitra Navratri has great importance from a religious point of view.
