I had the confidence that I will be able to do this because I always do things with confidence and as I thought I got selected and now I'm working as a Asst. Choreographer in the Indian film industry and the journey was quite exciting and was very good.
1. Tell us about your background and journey
About my background, I didn't come to this field with my family support. I used to attend summer classes where my passion for dance budded up. So, later seeing my works, my family started to support me and from there my journey for dance began.
2. When did you first decide that you wanted to pursue dancing and how did you start?
At the age of 17 I decided to pursue my career in dancing. I used to dance from my childhood itself where my interest raised and I started to help my master by assisting him in teaching dance to the other students. At that time only the show 'Ungalil yaar adutha Prabhu deva' was popular and my aim was to take part in that show.
3. Tell us your experience working as a Choreographer in the film industry?
Actually I applied for the audition in 2013 to choreograph in the cine industry. The audition used to happens once in 5 years where more than 500 dancers participate where we should dance in three different styles. It would be folk, western and classical and from that 40 dancers would be selected after passing many levels.
Finally around 150 masters would be conducting this and tell us the final dance list. I had the confidence that I will be able to do this because I always do things with confidence and as I thought I got selected and now I'm working as a Asst. Choreographer in the Indian film industry and the journey was quite exciting and was very good.
4. What is one essential thing that every dancer should possess?
- Concentration and memory power should me more
- They should have the Acceptancy to adapt to all the styles and this would be fulfilled only through untiring hard work.
- A dancer should be like a sand by making himself flexible so his master would be able to sculpt him into a beautiful sculpture
Todays generation spend most of their time using smart phones and they don't have time to spend in any extra curricular activities. Taking Dance as their career is quite tough in this situation but if they work with dedication and passion they can truly make their career a successful one.
5. Any message for the youth out there aspiring to join in this industry?
They should try to learn dance step by step by attending classes and mostly avoid learning from you tube channels because they tend to copy from that and apply that as their style. Dancing is something that should be learnt with creativity and of course dedication.
