Shreya Maurya - I See Writing as a Medium to Know Myself (IG Writer/Poet)

Shreya Maurya

Hello, I'm Shreya Maurya, an IG writer/poet. I like to keep things simple and sweet!

1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

It hasn't been that long of a journey yet, a little over 3 years and I'm yet to discover so much about this field and myself in the years to come. But it has sure been a roller-coaster ride, I'll accept.

Social media is not an easy place to work, especially when you're sensitive to social labels. One has to keep working on themselves, keep growing as a person and adapt to be able to work. It's fun though, I get to interact with hundreds of people, I absolutely love my work!

2. When did you decide you wanted to be a writer?

It struck me once while reading books on Wattpad, how does it feel like to be on the other end, to write your heart out, to live in a world of your own and have other people see it too, yes I was totally into Wattpad books then haha!

3. Is it a financially stable career?

Honestly, I see writing as a medium to know myself more than as a source of income.

But if it's your passion that you're following then you can turn any career into a financially stable one. Simply put yourself out there, be patient and consistent, you'll be good to go. Also, originality and creativity are what most of the brands look for, so that's what you must focus on.

4. Who is your favourite writer and why?

I absolutely admire Sylvia Plath. Her works are bone-chilling, I'm envious of her literary skills honestly. I'd like to quote from her many works this particular one for it never leaves my head, “I'm alone in my room, between two worlds.”

5. Where does your inspiration lie?

Everything and anything is a source of inspiration for me. Though I mostly like to write about my life now because it brings me peace. Also, conversations with strangers are very much insightful, I learn from them, I write.

6.What piece of advice would you like to give to future aspiring writers?

Don't hesitate to write whatever comes to your mind. You'd find it mundane but to others, it's everything they've tried to talk about since long. Do it without having to worry about judgement. Take the criticism, let it fuel you, light the candles until they flatten for you to carve your art out of them. That's what a writer does.

7. Which is your favourite book and why?

“Call me by your name and I'll call you by mine.”

Call me by your name, a novel by André Aciman. This book will always have my heart. The blossoming romance between the two characters is heart-warming and heart wrenching simultaneously for love is pure, though sometimes confusing. Love is love, it has no boundaries.
