I have comprehensively studied over 100 dietary theories and innovative methods in integrative wellness in the development of my professional principles and private practice.
2. What are some of the biggest myths related to nutrition?
Some of the biggest myths related to nutrition are that there is "good" and "bad" food and fewer calories equal healthier or weight loss. Nutrition is not that simple and there is no "one sign fits all" solution or a cookie-cutter approach when it comes to nutrients and operating in a state of well-being.
3. Where did you study nutrition science and why did you choose it as a career?
I studied nutrition at multiple universities and institutes. I have degrees from the University of Houston, Texas Southern University as well as Maryland University. I have certifications from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition as well as NASM and AFPA.
4. How can one go about building their immunity?
The focus is not "building" but optimizing. Since about 80% of your immunity resides in your gut, gut health is the foundation of a balanced immune system.
5. What are some of the mistakes people make while trying to lose weight?
Most people assume that weight loss is mathematical--less calorie intake + more calories burned = weight loss. The body is extremely smart. It will lose unnecessary waste (weight) if you are feeding it the right tools to function.
6. What comprises a sustainable diet that is good for maintaining a healthy weight and BMI?
The key is eating nutrient-dense foods that are in season and keep the body in motion.
7. Which is your favorite book & why?
The Finish Line was Just the Start (my memoir) because it is the source of motivation. It keeps me thinking about my WHY.
