Karim Chater

Try to find inspiration from anything anywhere and don’t stop until you get what you want. Learn from anyone! As Emerson said - Every man is my superior in some way, in that, I learn of him.

1. Tell us something about your Background and Journey.

I was born in Casablanca, Sidi Bernoussi to be exact, had a childhood full of adventures, then moved to Sidi Moumen as an 8years old kid, which is still my current neighborhood. As a teenager I was really passionate about Filming, tried Vlogging, Comedy Skits, and did some Fashion Content in 2014 which I all posted on Facebook.

As the years passed, I decided to take a new path and try for the first time what truly represented me, what spoke for my personality - FASHION, but with a Moroccan touch, my country brought me to life that did impact me as a child, what made me who I am, my surroundings, traditions I observed people doing, traditions I practiced as a Moroccan.

I filmed my first video with the help of my talented friend Net Style on our rooftop, the video which was with an Amazighian traditional song, ended up reaching thousands of people and got shared by many celebrities, we weren’t expecting a similar engagement especially in our first video. That’s when my career started and my motivation to create knew no limits.

2. How would you define Art and Fashion?

Art is turning things from normal to extraordinary, art for me is a lifestyle, a unique mentality that could definitely be developed. As for fashion, it’s my way of Self Expression and Creativity , a beautiful way to transform the ideas inside my head into an outfit.

3. How would you describe your Style?

My style is a mix of my personality and the fashion in the 80s.

4. How do you create balance between Culture and Fashion?

Usually I focus on showcasing the Moroccan culture throughout the concepts of every project I work on -  the locations, the people, the poses and the captions (description of each post). As for the fashion it’s important to choose vintage garments that speaks for the concept as well and also represents its idea.

5. How would you define Moroccan Traditional clothing?

The Moroccan traditional clothing are an incredible legacy that was inherited by our predecessors and that needs to be cherished, worn and showcased even more.

6. Who inspires you the most and why?

I get my inspiration from my experiences in my childhood, my parents lifestyle in the 80s, our Moroccan culture and my neighborhood in Sidi Moumen.

7. What tips do you have for people who want to work in this field?

The most important thing is to create and practice constantly, everything gets better if it’s done many times! Try to find inspiration from anything anywhere and don’t stop until you get what you want. Learn from anyone! As Emerson said: Every man is my superior in some way, in that, I learn of him.

8. Which is your favourite Book & Why?

My favorite book currently is Yoriyas’s photobook “CASABLANCA NOT THE MOVIE” in which he included all of his amazing pictures from his projects. Each picture is interesting, I love his methods of photography and especially the spontaneity in each shot.
