The best part of being an artist is that you do things that makes yourself happy and at the same time having the ability to entertain other people. I have received comments and messages from people who have told me that my Music has gotten them through some rough times. In this era of chaos and war, I think the best thing you can do as a human being and as an artist is to make another human being happy.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I stumbled upon Violin at the age of 7. Initially, I wasn't very keen on practicing the instrument as I was forced by my parents to practice. Slowly, I found the world of Music fascinating and started to practice out of my own interest. I first performed on a stage at the age of 10 and have been fortunate enough to perform in different parts of India and the world since then.
My first Guru was Prof. Abdul Aziz and my further studies have been under the guidance of Violin Maestro Sr. Nedumangad Sivanandan and ace Violinist Sri. Vittal Rangan. Before deciding to pursue Music full time, I was a software engineer at Bosch.
It is all because of the support of my well wishers, I have a combined viewership running into millions for my videos on YouTube and other social media platforms.
2. Does your taste in Music as a listener and as a Musician coincide?
Although I have been trained in Indian Carnatic Music system, I love listening to all genres of Music like EDM, rock, pop, being a few. I try to combine these genres with my field of study - Carnatic Music. In fact, I have some exciting releases lined up, featuring my experiments!
3. What satisfies the artist in you?
I think what makes humans amazing is the ability to work together and bring out extraordinary ideas. Nothing gives me greater joy than performing or making Music with like minded Musicians.
And I believe it is the responsibility of every Musician/Artist to spread messages of love, peace and harmony through their art, rather than propagating divisive ideologies.
4. Do you believe that everything in nature has a rhythm? How have you experienced it?
Yes. The greatest example is within ourselves - our heartbeat. The moment that rhythm stops, we cease to exist. The chirping of birds, crashing of waves in the sea, rains, everything has its own Music. When I get stuck or run out of ideas, I usually take a walk outside or go to a peaceful place and that feeds a lot of ideas into my subconscious mind.
5. How do you plan to take your career forward?
Apart from doing covers, my real interest lies in releasing original independent Music. Our audience, especially the young generation are interested in listening to non-filmy Music as well. And that shift in taste is a good thing. Along with that, I wish to perform a lot more and take Indian Music to the global stage.
Like I said before, I teach selected number of students. If you like the way I play the Violin, the entire credit goes to my teachers. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have a good teacher. Music education in India is plagued with bad teachers selling unrealistic expectations to parents.
In the future, I wish to start a Music school featuring some of the best teachers. The only aim is to provide the best quality Music education to aspiring, serious Musicians.
