If you are a millennial kid, then you will admit that the cartoon shows or other television shows you grew up watching are nowhere equal to the quality of shows that are being telecasted now. On the other hand, the level of Indian content on OTT platforms is been rising day by day now.
Emmy Win
We have achieved many remarkable landmarks
with the web content this year; the cherry on the top was that this year an
Indian series called “Delhi Crime” won the Emmy Award for the Best Drama Series
Category which is a huge recognition for Indian content worldwide. But the fact
that the content on television is being degrading cannot be neglected.
Never Changing Drama
We may be revolutionising the image of Indian
content with the internet platforms but it’s a shame that the Indian television
channels are still stuck with the typical vamp – virtuous saas bahu serials
with the same story being presented with slight plot twists.
It is not that the audience is not
progressive enough, if it were the case the present audience would not be so
welcoming towards the new web series being launched every day.
The strategy that these pathetic show makers,
production houses or these entertainment channels implement is that they mostly
target housewives, older women or that section of the society who mostly spends
their time staying at home. They are least affected by the criticism they
receive via viewers that do not belong from the targeted section of the
audience.
Our Country’s Problem
India is a religious orthodox country where
sentiments and emotions are ranked over logic and practicality. And these so - called
daily soaps have been running for so long that you basically forget the
starting plot of the show is only to sell emotions and sentiments; logic and reality
is a far-fetched idea for them.
These shows corrupt the minds of the innocent
audience watching it and exempt from any rational explanation for nonsense and
unwanted random plot twists. The development the country has made should be
reflected on the television entertainment industry as well.
What Do We Need?
The daily soaps topics should rise above the
same old family drama which is no near to real life situations and try to focus
more on realistic topics or topics that elevate the social orthodox mindsets
because India does not need that.
It needs more of Delhi Crime and less of
Naagin. India does not lack creativity so why the repetitive non-sense again
and again?
If you hold up an argument saying, ‘but
Indian content is doing so well, so let the TV show what it shows, why bother?’,
I would say, ‘yes but is it not unfair that only the people who have access to
internet or subscription to various OTT platforms only get to watch the raw and
good content’.
People need to realise this and introduce the people who are still stuck with such awful TV serials to good and valuable content and persuade them into stop consuming such drama which actually contributes a 0 to mental growth. This way, shows like ‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya’, ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata hai’, ‘Bigg Boss’ gets lesser and lesser TRP and ultimately comes to an end.
India deserves better!
