Ragini Varma - Create Content You Are Proud of and Not Out of Pressure (Digital Creator)

Ragini Varma

I love how versatile my wardrobe is and I love to rewear statement pieces in multiple ways.

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

I am a product growth manager at a fashion e-commerce company! I knew I LOVED fashion and wanted to create content which could resonate with my audience! I love how versatile my wardrobe is and I love to rewear statement pieces in multiple ways! My friends and family always came to me for fashion advice and choosing to be doing so on Instagram was a logical step forward!

Before #VocalForLocal was made famous, I have been promoting Indian brands regularly on my page. Be it ikat jackets, jumpsuits, hand block prints, you will find a touch of Indian handicrafts in all my outfits! You can check my hashtag #raginirecommends to find some amazing local fashion brands!

2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create digital content and how did you start?

I started blogging back in 2013, I had a blog where I used to feature daily outfit posts. Then my job took a toll and I wasn't in touch with creating content. Honestly, I started posting content regularly during the lockdown and it has worked beautifully for me!

3. Is vlogging and digital content creation a financially sustainable career?

This is a tricky question. It is a financially sustainable career if you are doing it full time and have some incredible data to back up with. When you start out, it is important you have an alternative career as well because you also need to know if you want to do this full time or this is just a passing hobby!

4. Who is your favourite digital creator and why?

My favourite digital creator has to be Shreya Jain, Shweta Vijay in beauty because they are so honest with their reviews. I have blind faith in them!

5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

My fashion sense is minimalist! I love mixing and matching pieces in my wardrobe. Sometimes when I am scrolling through Instagram or hear a catchy song my mind goes, ‘Okay that would be good to create a reel on’!

6. Which is your favourite book and why?

My favourite book has to be ‘Lean in’ by Sheryl Sandberg. It talks about how we as women often don’t ask our worth because society has conditioned us to be so. A must-read for every woman out there!

7. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring digital creators?

It takes patience and time to reach where you want to go! Please create content you are proud of and not out of pressure! Most importantly don’t be obsessed with the number of likes and comments, have fun with what you do!
