There are some accidents while doing a live show. Once I left my mic on and without realizing I was singing in a weird voice. The messages and calls from listeners  came pouring in asking me if I was alright..

1. Tell us about your background and journey.

An email changed my life. I had completed my PG in Environmental Science and had started working as an environmental consultant. Really hit hard, “caring for the environment was largely lip service. After reading a column by Niladri Bose (veteran RJ).

I sent an email requesting him to train me as a voice over artist. I met him and got to know about an audition for a radio station at his studio. I was  selected and with that I began my innings in the industry.

2. What made you to choose RJ as your profession?

You get paid to talk.  Jokes apart, this is a beautiful medium that  connects you with a live audience every day. One can entertain and be part of social causes as well. Apart from meeting celebrities being part of a persons routine a privilege..

3. What challenges one can face during live calls?

A caller describing his/her hatred for biriyani can rile up emotions. Sometimes it won’t be biriyani it could be a hard view of a sensitive issue. To avoid such mishaps we record callers.

4. What makes a person connect with their audience as an RJ?

While selecting a date you hope the person is honest, funny and relatable. A RJ does all of that in 1 Minute and 30 seconds. We have to win you over and over again.

5. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring RJs?

Don’t mimic anybody. Find your strength, own it and flaunt it.
