Bollywood has made a lot of inspiring and motivational movies, some to the extreme ends of seriousness, as of patriotism and nationalism, and also to some deeper ends of emotions, like of the real-life struggling heroes of our country.
About the Movie
Among them, if we are asked to tell some movies that have been highly motivational, yet light-hearted fun, then we can definitely recall the movie, 3 Idiots. The movie was not just a mere hit in India, but it also did well across the other countries as well. The movie has completed its 11 years in 2020, hence let’s get to know some interesting facts about it for mesmerizing how a great piece of work it is.
1. The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) was actually the real college where the three protagonists of the film were shown studying under the name of The Imperial College of Engineering.
2. For the scene where the three of the protagonists were needed to be shot drunk in the film, Aamir suggested getting drunk in reality so as to have a better effect upon the scene. It must have been a one-take shot but what happened is that the production ran out of the stock of their camera rolls and so, the director, Rajkumar Hirani kept on asking for re-takes numerous times, to engage the actors while they brought the camera rolls.
3. At first, actor Shahrukh Khan was offered the character of Rancho, but then later he declined stating his date issues, and then Aamir played the role, well very suitably and fortunately for the audience. People loved the character and the way Aamir presented it in front of the audience. He totally nailed what he was assigned for.
4. In an interview, the producer of the film, Vidhu Vinod Chopra once revealed that the idea behind the flying helicopter in the movie that was reconstructed by Rancho in the hostel was of Dia Mirza.
5. It is believed that Kareena was already very keen in order to collaborate with Rajkumar Hirani, and therefore, she didn’t wait for any further and directly approached him for her character Pia in the movie.
6. There also were considered numerous choices for the roles of Farhan and Raju. The filmmakers approached Arshad Warsi, John Abraham, and Saif Ali Khan, but they all declined due to their respective reasons at that time, hence the roles were finally offered and given to Madhavan and Sharman. It need not be said that they both made their characters worthy of the film.
6. Throughout his role as Rancho, Aamir never stood still in the entire film. He used to always sway and swing in all directions. When the actor was asked about it, he concluded that he had observed his nephew swinging around all the time and he understood that the present generation is never still and so, Aamir bifurcated the same chirpy essence in the movie as well.
7. One of the most important scenes in the films, the pregnancy episode, was actually supposed to be in the director’s previous medical based comedy movie, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., but he thought it wasn’t that necessary and then after all those years that scene made more sense in 3 Idiots.
8. The hospital that was shown in the film, where Raju (Sharman) was admitted after his suicide attempt, jumping off from the Dean’s office, was originally the Fortis Hospital in Noida.
9. The film was supposedly shot in reverse order. The present scenarios were shot first and all the back days of college that were in the flashback part, were shot later.
10. The character Phunsukh Wangdu, played by Aamir Khan was originally inspired by Sonam Wangchuk who is an engineer from Leh.
It is devastating how Bollywood doesn’t focus more on these types of movies that are actually life-changing at some points. The amount of optimism, motivation along with a joyful pinch, it provides a visual treat to the audience. The people who might want to watch a light-hearted comedy along with great life lessons, must choose this movie. The movie never tends to bore you at any point. And more specifically it is age-friendly and could be watched by anyone and everyone.
