From cracking small auditions to getting your first major break to getting the popularity and then handling it successfully, everything is challenging. There isn’t any formula as to what will work and what will not. I still face many challenges, I feel my only way of dealing with them is to focus on the bigger picture. I feel that takes care of everything.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I was born in Vadodara, Gujarat. My parents were a working couple, which is why I was raised a little different. Since childhood, I was interested in sports and music and my parents made sure that I pursued both. Despite my resistance as a kid, they put me through a process where I was professionally trained in singing and swimming both.
Then I started representing my school and eventually state in national level youth festivals and won. Academically, my career has been very good. As a kid, at one point of time I wanted to become a doctor, then lawyer followed by a singer and a sports person. I guess that's why I ended up becoming an actor, where I get to play all the possible parts.
2. When did you first decide you wanted to pursue Acting and be in the entertainment business, how did you start ?
I am a trained singer with 7 years of training in Hindustani shastriya sangeet from Mewati Gharana. I always wanted to pursue singing and wanted to become a playback singer. At the age of 19, music maestro Viju Shah heard me in a singing competition and offered me to sing with him in his concerts, that was the beginning of my music career in Mumbai.
After completion of my post graduation from St. Xavier’s, Mumbai while working in a leading PR firm, I got exposed to the world of television and that was the turning point, that’s what got me attracted to acting and then I decided to quit my first and only job and started pursuing the dream of becoming an actor.
3. What's your opinion of OTT platforms enabling so many actors to get entry to the world of entertainment? Was it harder for you ?
With the rise of OTT culture and infrastructure to support the parallel exhibition medium, it’s more likely that actors would get more opportunities as a variety of unconventional content is being produced.
It wasn’t harder for me then and even now it’s not. If you have talent then you will be picked up is what I have always believed. Yes, it could get tough but it’s not impossible if you are persistent.
4. What opportunities are available to upcoming actors in the industry, how can someone start before making it big ?
As I said earlier, there are ample opportunities available provided you have what it takes to be a professional working actor. Its critically important for aspiring actors to evaluate themselves, their craft and their commitment for the craft before getting into the field of acting.
5. What are some of the major challenges that you have faced in the industry and how have you overcome them?
From cracking small auditions to getting your first major break to getting the popularity and then handling it successfully, everything is challenging. There isn’t any formula as to what will work and what will not. I still face many challenges, I feel my only way of dealing with them is to focus on the bigger picture. I feel that takes care of everything.
6. Who is your all time artist and why?
You mean all-time favorite artist ? well, it has to be king khan. Not only mine but zillions of aspiring actors of our generation look up to him. He gave a lot of people hope that a normal guy without any film background could make it big.
7. What is your mantra for success?
I haven't found that and I am still figuring it out.
