My name is Kirsten Varela, and I am a calisthenics (bodyweight training) coach and a street workout athlete. I am also the founder of "Elysium Calisthenics Park", the first of its kind outdoor fitness park in India.
Prior to jumping into the fitness industry, I was a part of the sports and events industry and played a role in various sporting events like the Formula 1 Grand Prix, Indian Premier League, Indian Super League, Pro Kabaddi League, ICC World T20 etc.
2. What is your fitness mantra?
2. What is your fitness mantra?
There are various forms of fitness like weight-lifting, callisthenics, Zumba, power-lifting etc. Each of these forms is good and awesome in their own way. Choose a form of fitness that makes you enjoy your workouts and not something that makes you feel like you're punishing yourself.
3. What are some of the major misconceptions about diets and exercises?
There are plenty. For example, certain people claim you can't build muscle with just your own body weight (which is completely false). On the other hand, others put unnecessary emphasis on fat-burners, mass-gainers etc. Try not to complicate exercise and diets. In my opinion, natural food is the BEST!
4. How can one maintain a healthy lifestyle?
By training consistently, eating right, getting enough sleep, and most importantly, enjoying what one does!
5. How can one build a successful career in your field?
But not letting your passion die down. Making a career in the fitness industry is certainly not easy. You will have ups and downs, but that's the beauty of the journey. It is important to educate yourself, stay up to date with everything and be open to learning.
You will also receive several opinions from all groups of people. It is critical for you to be thick-skinned and not let the words of others influence you in a negative manner. Take constructive criticism with a smile, but remain optimistic. If you believe in your product, NOTHING will stop you from achieving your goals.
