Birth of Draupadi
Draupadi was
born to king Drupad of Panchal city. King Drupad did not have kids, which was a
threat to his kingdom and his throne. Thus, he praised god through a great
yajna so that he can have a son. After days of yajna, Draupadi was born along
with her brother from the fire that was burning in Yajna.
Draupadi was
unwelcomed by her father as he did not want a daughter but it was prophesized
that she will bring out a major change in the world and the end of Dwaparyug.
Childhood,
Early Life and Marriage
As a child,
Draupadi remained in her room inside the castle where she used to play with her
caretakers, watch her brother getting lessons of archery and swordplay. She
often played friendly battles of swordplay with her brother.
Even as a
child Draupadi was very keen and blunt. She used to ask questions about her
life and birth from her caretakers. She was very eager to know all the things
and asked questions just like a child.
Draupadi was
married to the Pandavas (5 sons of Pandu and Kunti) due to the mistake of her
mother-in-law, Kunti, and thus became the first Queen of Indraprastha.
Tragedy
hit Draupadi
Soon after
becoming the queen of Indraprastha, Draupadi along with her husbands were
invited to Hastinapur palace for a visit and a game of chausar. Her first
husband, Yudhisthir, was very much inclined towards chausar and thus agreed to
play.
Shakuni, an
uncle of Kauravas, deceived Pandavas in the game and got authorization of not
only Pandavas and their property but of Draupadi as well.
Dushasan was
asked to tear Draupadi's clothes in front of the council by his elder brother,
Duryodhana. Pandavas, being lost in chausar and thus became the servants of
Kauravas, were bound and couldn't save Draupadi but she was saved by Lord
Krishna.
Exile and
The War of Mahabharata
After such a
hideous deed, Draupadi along with her husbands was sent to an exile of 14 years
on the condition that if they were found, they had to repeat the exile. After
completing the exile of 14 years, the war of Mahabharata happened between
Kauravas and Pandavas. Pandavas defeated the Kauravas in the war and hence, the
end of Dwaparyug came along with the war.
Death
After losing
all their children in war, Pandavas and Draupadi went on a pilgrimage to the
Himalayas where they fell off the mountain, one by one, reached heaven after
spending a handful of moments in hell.
