Photography is a huge field. It can be said that its as big as an ocean and everything is interlinked.

1. Tell us about your company, personal background and journey.

My company’s name is Shegy clicks, and it’s been in existence since 2012. In the present, there are many photographers, cinematographers editors but it was not like this when I first started. It has gradually expanded into a big team now.

About my personal background, I’m the first engineering graduate in my family, I’ve done my B.tech in IT and I passed out in 2012. I started out first by making short films right after I finished college and I wanted to get into the film industry as a cinematographer.

Incidentally, I got an opportunity to do a wedding shoot for a friend and I found out that there is a good future in wedding photography. I was also praised for my work and I liked the field too. Weddings let me capture the happy moments of people and it made me feel good and so my career in wedding photography started.

2. How and when did you find your passion for photography?

When I was doing my 3rd yr in college, I was interested in photography and I had a Samsung S3310, a basic mobile. We hadn’t developed into touch mobiles yet in 2011 and I had a normal keypad mobile with just 2 megapixels.

I took some photos which I thought were good with my device and was appreciated for my photos. It was then that I got interested in photography and I planned to get into the field once I finished college. Hence I started shooting short films and then shifted to wedding shoots.

3. What are the important skills one should have to be a successful photographer?

If you ask me, one of the most important things is to keep on learning because the times keep on changing. First, there were physical camera rolls, then came the DSLR and now (mirrorless?). New things keep emerging and we need to keep up with the times and keep updating ourselves.

Another thing we should remember is to observe a lot of things. As a photographer, we can only replicate on the picture if we observe. Observe many common situations and we can replicate it on the picture.

4. What are various opportunities available for aspiring photographers?

Photography is a huge field. It can be said that its as big as an ocean and everything is interlinked. For example, there is wedding photography, family portraits, children portraits, model shoots. At the same time, there is product photography and they choose similar and linked projects.

There is no one major category in photography, once we get into it there is only a slight variation in each category. If we understand the core of photography our options are limitless.

5. What has been your biggest challenge that you faced and how did you overcome that?

Conservative mindset among clients family members is kind of an issue. Indian wedding is a huge thing and it has to satisfy lots and lots of expectations. We have to make them understand the recent trends, update them from Conservative mindset. Our previous works and templates can help us out in this situation.

6. What do you think are the most important qualities of a successful entrepreneur?

If you ask me what makes a good photographer id say taking good photos, but when it comes to being an entrepreneur, its a package. There are a lot of things like maintaining a commitment, handling a client, communication skill, quality of output.

There has to be a quality for everything we do from taking the picture up to delivery. An entrepreneur takes care of all these things and only then becomes a successful entrepreneur.

7. How can one overcome a hurdle of lack of funds when starting up?

If it comes to financial aid I would suggest starting from family and friends if that circle allows you to. Start with small projects and re-invest them into your business.
