"Making both the films were entirely different experiences. Maya came out of my fascination with horror films/ urban legends I grew up with. Game over was an experiment on brevity. I wanted to tell an engaging story set in a confined location with limited characters" says Director Ashwin
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
After graduating from an engineering college, I quit my training in a corporate company to pursue my passion for films and storytelling. It took my close to two years to make my first feature film. There’s been no looking back ever since.
2. What led you to choose this as your profession?
I’ve always liked reading & listening to stories. At one point, I started considering telling them to others. I immensely enjoy the process of creation on a blank piece of paper.
3. How and where do you get the inspiration to churn out content?
I day dream a lot. I read about stuff that interests me. It’s hard to say one single thing that serves as an inspiration. Telling stories & coming up with ideas has become my lifestyle.
4. Tell us about your working experience in the two block buster films "Maaya" and "Game over" and the concept behind directing it?
Making both the films were entirely different experiences. Maya came out of my fascination with horror films/ urban legends I grew up with. Game over was an experiment on brevity. I wanted to tell an engaging story set in a confined location with limited characters.
5. What advice would you like to give to the future and aspiring directors like you?
Tell stories that you can’t live without. The only person you are expected to engage is yourself. Focus on the process; the results will invariably come.
6. How do you plan to take your career forward?
One day at a time. I’ll continue to tell stories that speak to me.
