Joe Biden had recently taken his vows and entered office as America's 46th president. President Joe Biden has delivered a long list of vows for his first 100 days. Among these promises, his priority would be the coronavirus pandemic.
He has declared a 1.9 trillion-dollar plan to
tackle the crisis, improving financial assistance for Americans and industries. He
also vowed to vaccinate 100 million Americans in his first 100 days.
Why Are the First 100 Days So Important?
The first 100 days of a presidential term in the United States are taken as the symbolic significance and this period is considered as a bar to measure the success of a presidential term of any president.
However, even though former President Obama
acknowledged that the first hundred days are important it is, in fact, the first
thousand days that make the difference.
Economy Planning
In the first 100 days of his government, Biden wants to reopen most schools and have 100 million vaccine doses distributed. He also wants to make public colleges and universities free for all families who could not afford it.
Biden has laid a plan to uplift the middle class and increase the taxes on wealthy personalities. His plan includes providing health insurance coverage and raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and repealing "right to work" laws.
He has further planned to invest around trillion dollars to work on green energy infrastructure. He wants to introduce a public health insurance option like Medicare that will be available premium-free to people in the States where Medicare is not available.
He also thought of worldwide trade laws that protect the workers. His plans also include protecting the environment, address the problem of violence against women, uphold labour standards, and foster innovation.
He further declared a separate economic recovery plan which will include investments in manufacturing, maintaining infrastructure and creating more job opportunities.
His climate plan includes issues that need to
tackle so he planned to invest $2 trillion in clean energy and a clean
electricity standard which will help in electricity production in the US but
not produce any carbon by the year 2035.
Plans to Combat Coronavirus
The Coronavirus has killed almost three lakh Americans. Therefore, now Biden's primary focus is to deal with coronavirus. As of now, he is mainly emphasizing the supply of coronavirus vaccine in every corner of the United States.
His 1.9 trillion-dollar coronaviruses 'Rescue Plan' would see that every American receive a cheque of 1,400 dollars as well as improving the vaccine rollout program. He has also promised to summon the Defense Production Act to speed up the vaccine production and production of related materials like tubes and syringes.
The new president's Covid-19 plan also includes
setting up thousands of vaccination sites in gyms and community and have
guaranteed to carry out a plan to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic by expanding
testing, facilitating better coordination between States, funding and
organizing rapid development of a vaccine.
Issue of Migrant Laws
On the very first-day, Biden talked over issues faced by the migrants. He ended former President Trump's ban on visitors from majority Muslim nations and halted the formation of the wall that Trump ordered on the US-Mexico border to prevent illegal immigration.
Biden also plans to send a bill to Congress to rework immigration policies and is ready to give citizenship that the Trump administration denied to millions of undocumented migrants living inside the country. Joe Biden has asked Congress to offer legal status to around 11 million immigrants.
He ordered agencies to reunite children separated from their migrant families after crossing the border. The President highlighted the importance of education in his victory speech. This is why he has asked to forgive or to reduce the interest on a student's loan.
In the first 100 days, he has also promised that
once again transgender students will be allowed to play sports and use
bathrooms according to their gender identity.
Tackling Racism in America
During his victory speech, Biden committed to
tackling systemic racism in America. He has also pledged to establish a new
policy that will address the problem of inequality, racism, and civil rights
abuses.
Strengthening Foreign Relationship
Biden would focus on national issues and will
work on foreign policy. He has also promised to repair relationships with US
allies. He also immediately rejoined the Paris climate accord.
Conclusion
The Joe Biden administration needs to analyze all viewpoints before making decisions and taking action. The present scenario demands Biden to be multi-tasking to deal with all the matters prevailing in the country. The incoming administration should be well prepared for future challenges.
Joe Biden and his administration have stood up
for most of everything that Donald Trump did not. The Biden administration has
talked big. Now coming 100 days will tell whether he can fulfil his promises or
not.
