Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal on 16th March announced the official confirmation of the setting up of the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE).
On Tuesday, Delhi's Directorate of Education tweeted, "Now, Delhi has its own education board. Delhi Education Board got registered today." The tweet also congratulated students, teachers, and other stakeholders for the same. It also said that it will bring the much-awaited reform in their assessment system.
In the coming academic year of 2021-22, around 20 to 25 schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education will now be affiliated with the newly formed Delhi Board of School Education. The selection and conversion of these schools into the board will take place after the deliberation with respective principals, teachers, and parents.
Currently, there are around 1000 Delhi government schools and approximately 1,700 private schools and most of them are affiliated with the CBSE. The private schools in the city will have a choice to either get affiliated with the DBSE or remain affiliated with their previous board.
The Delhi government has reserved Rs 62 crore to build up a distinct state board of education, the Indian Express reported. The structure of the board will include a Governing Body, that will be chaired by the Education Minister. The board will also have an Executive Body for everyday functions and will be lead by a CEO.
Both the governing and executive bodies will have experts from professional industries, such as the education sector, principals of government and private schools, and bureaucrats.
According to the Indian Express, Kejriwal stated that the three primary goals of the board are to produce “staunch patriots”, “good people” and to prepare students to not be reliant on the job market for employment.
Shailendra Sharma, principal advisor to the Directorate of Education said that central universities, including Delhi University, recognize all state education boards and take their students when the admission process in their colleges starts.
Chief Minister asserted that the DBSE announcement will not only influence the education system in the state but will also have a deep impact on the education system of the country in the future.
In July 2020, the Delhi government had set up two committees to draft the scheme and framework for the constitution of the new state education board and curriculum reforms. Also, Kendriya Vidyalayas would continue to remain affiliated with CBSE.
All Delhi government
schools are expected to be affiliated with the board over the next year or two.
However, the exact timeline has not been shared as of now. It is important to note
that the board does not impact schools affiliated with CBSE in NCR regions of
Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad.
