Once
a jockey will understand his audience his audience will automatically connect
to him. So if one want to connect to his audience he have to work on what his
audience wants from him.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I am born and brought up in Punjab. My parents were government employee. I have two siblings one elder sister and one younger brother. I am Master in computer application.
Talking about to the journey to be an RJ is also very interesting. I was working as teacher in a school and I got interview call from All India Radio. Taking holidays in school in such a short time is not easy but still my father forced me to take holiday from the school and go for the auditions and luckily I got selected in those auditions.
Talking about my journey my journey was as normal as a middle class family kid have. My father use to do stage handling in the events at his work place and this thing of Public speaking came from him. All three of us have done this Public speaking in our life and we all love doing it as it connects us with our father and his legacy.
2. Why did you chose RJing as a career and what were the first steps you took?
When I was a kid I love to listen Radio and I use to admire the Radio jockey. I use to thing what a great job they are doing I will also speak on Radio one day. This make me choose Rjing as a career.
I filled the auditions form of All India Radio and went for the auditions and got selected.
3. What challenges can one face during live calls?
There are lot of challenges one faces during live calls
1. Many of the time listeners complaint about we not picking their call on air
2. To keep the listener to be brief as they get excited and wants to share so much that we have to manipulate them and disconnect the calls
3. Sometimes they ask for a song to play which you don't have in your database at that moment.
4. What are the skills required to be a radio jockey?
There are lot of skills required
A. Good voice
B. Spontaneous
C. Modulation in voice
D. Good script writer
E. Problem solver
F. Can work under pressure
5. Does one also need to be technologically savy in your favourite?
Yes, to be a Radio Jockey one have to be little technology savy.
6. What makes a person connect with their audience as an RJ?
One have to connect to his or her audience by knowing his audience. What his audience want? What they understand? What they want to listen? What are their interest? Once a jockey will understand his audience his audience will automatically connect to him. So if one want to connect to his audience he have to work on what his audience wants from him.
7. Which is your favourite book?
My favourite book is "The Secret"
