When I picked up photography in college, I loved how it made me feel. I made the leap to pursue wedding and portrait photography as my career because I loved the idea of making people happy and making them feel beautiful for a living. I also can't deny that I loved that idea of making my own schedule and being my own boss. It works best with my lifestyle and how my brain functions.
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
I feel like I am rare that I am one of those people who wasn't raised doing photography nor did I study it in school. I actually got my bachelors degree in Communication Management after deciding that Psychology wasn't the route I wanted to take with my life. After I graduated I sought out other professional photographers to learn from and shadow, and from there I grew into what I am now.
2. How and why did you choose this as your profession?
When I picked up photography in college, I loved how it made me feel. I made the leap to pursue wedding and portrait photography as my career because I loved the idea of making people happy and making them feel beautiful for a living. I also can't deny that I loved that idea of making my own schedule and being my own boss. It works best with my lifestyle and how my brain functions.
Currently, I am preparing for a heavy month of shooting weddings ahead, as well as adding some branding projects to my calendar as well. I am always preparing to uproot my business, for the third time, as I follow along with my journey being a physician's wife and moving up North for his Residency program.
4. What thoughts would you like to share to all the people out there?
Whether you are a photographer, creator, entrepreneur, etc...it is so important to remember how far you’ve come from where you started. Living in this day in age with social media being rampant, it’s easy to feel like you aren’t progressing fast or good enough. It’s crucial to remember that there is only one of YOU in this world, and YOU have something to offer that no one else in this world does.
5. How do you plan to take your career forward?
I would love to take my career forward by focusing more on fashion/portrait/branding photography and eventually make only that type of content full time. It’s what really speaks to my soul as an artist.
6. Which is your favorite book and why?
My favorite book is "Untamed" by Glennon Doyle. I read it last year and it absolutely changed my life in a thousand different ways. I encourage you to check it out!
