MJ5 with their impeccable efforts own the title for “World record-holders of 27 different variations of Moonwalk”.

1.Tell us more about your background and journey.

The journey has been absolutely awesome. Though everything has its ups and downs, the process of emerging as one of the best has been great. We were just 5 college friends who shared a love for dance and music. R Kartik formed an all-male dance group called MJ5 with Himanshu Gola, Rohit Singh, Vishnu Kumar, and Dennis Anthony.

MJ5 rose to fame with your love after claiming the title of 2013’s ‘India’s Dancing Superstar’. Our iconic locking, popping, and animation style has helped us garner close to three million subscribers.

After claiming several titles for their impeccable dance moves including the world record for having almost “26 different variations of the moonwalk”, we have now made our singing debut with the “vision to be one of the best millennial powerhouse boy band sensations and India’s answer to BTS & K-Pop music.”

2. When did you first decide you wanted to pursue dancing and how did you start?

We first met at Delhi University dance competitions as we all possessed a similar dancing style. There were no groups that comprised of boys with similar built doing style that fused Animation with Bollywood music before, that’s how the idea of MJ5 was conceptualized by Kartik and was accepted to India’s Dancing superstar which marked the starting of our Journey.

More recently we decided to foray into music with an aim of spreading happiness and positivity. Our main aim has always been to entertain people through our form of art and this time we wanted to touch upon milestones that transcend the limitations of age, color, creed, and race.

3. Who is your inspiration?

We are inspired by everyday life and everyday people. Our brand ethos is deeply rooted in the common man. When it’s the dance we are inspired by Michael Jackson, Beyonce Knowles, Joaquín Cortés. Our inspiration when it comes to music is many – A.R Rahman sir, Ed Sheeran, BTS, Justin Bieber, and many more.

4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a dancer?

Being a dancer is generally a passion. But the way the dancing community has evolved, dance can be treated as a passion and profession at the same time at present. Dancers have a lot of opportunities like teaching, owning their own dance schools, being a choreographer, and growing along with it. As dancers, traveling around, meeting new people and connecting with them, spreading their name, and gaining fame from their art form are also some other perks of it.

5. Can you tell us more on- 𝘽𝘼𝙒𝘼𝘼𝙇?

We wanted to create ‘bawaal’ with whatever song we made, and that is the idea that we have tried to bring with our song. Our first track – BAWAAL is about spreading positivity, love, and happiness in turbulent times we live in. It’s a song of hope and cheer. We created the song with a motive that whoever listens to it feels a sense of motivation.

6. What is the weirdest thing between your five members?

The weirdest thing about the five members is that you will get to deal with five different types of energy. Kartik the leader is the moody tone of the group. Cheerful at times and serious in the next moment. I can blame it on the zodiac, Cancers are always moody. Vishnu apart from the love for dance has immense love for sleep too, if he gets a chance he can doze off anywhere regardless of the place.

Rohit has this special connection for his social media, he never misses a chance to look at it in the tiniest of the moments. Dennis has this quality of cracking dad jokes in between shoots and free time. Himanshu is a crazy food lover, he loves to try different cuisines and looks at the food menu first wherever he reaches. Unlike Joey, he lovingly shares his food with the other members too.

7. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?

Anyone can be a dancer on the basis of talent but, to grow with it and upgrade your form of art, training plays a major role. Getting Inspired by artists and people around is also part of you training yourselves because that is the actual start of your attraction and passion towards your art. Trying to learn a new style by yourself or discovering your own style is great and if you have a chance to learn from a mentor, it’s always the cherry on the cake.
