Shehzeen Rehman - I Don’t Push Myself To Create Content (Australian Blogger)

I started with more traditional blogging at first, then expanded into more visual content creation on Instagram. Over the last few years, I’ve also been fortunate enough to develop exclusive product collections with two brands that have really helped me expand the concept of influencer marketing, especially in the desi space, to a larger level.

Tell us about your background and journey.

Hi, I’m Shehzeen Rehman. I’m a lifestyle blogger, originally from Pakistan, and currently based out of Australia. My blog is mainly about lifestyle, I write about the things that have helped me in having a more mindful, kind, and grounded approach to life. I enjoy long walks, even longer cups of chai, and enjoy a slower pace of doing things.

I started with more traditional blogging at first, then expanded into more visual content creation on Instagram. Over the last few years, I’ve also been fortunate enough to develop exclusive product collections with two brands that have really helped me expand the concept of influencer marketing, especially in the desi space, to a larger level (my current khussa collection is with a Canadian brand called Meraki and I’ve talked about my journey on that on my Instagram @shehzeen.r).

When did you first decide that you wanted to create digital content and how did you start?

I switched over from a corporate career to the digital space, after doing it for about seven years.

Towards the last few years of doing corporate, I knew I wanted a change and because I had been writing in some capacity or another since my childhood, so I started this blog as a side thing while dabbling with ideas on what I could move over to. What I wrote luckily appealed to a lot of people quite instantly, so after spending some time understanding that this could be a viable career option with some effort, I made the change.

At the time, I started doing daily blog posts about different aspects of my lifestyle. I remember my regular readers telling me all the time, how they read the posts with their morning coffee or during a break at work. It was such a great start and one of the loveliest phases of my career. Now I focus more on smaller content pieces on Instagram at @shehzeen.r

Is vlogging and digital content creation a financially sustainable career?

In today’s times, it 100% is. Influencers whose audience has a connection with them have the potential to earn sustainably from their platforms (it can be a personal connection over everyday content or a technical one over things like daily recipes or news sharing – no one formula).

If you’re doing it full-time, the demands can be just as much (if not more) as a regular job and can be very financially rewarding.

How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?

Just everyday life. My personal focus is always on myself - how do I make myself better, how can I be good to myself. I’ve learnt that always looking at who you are and who you’d like to be (to yourself and to society) is enough to fuel not only consistent personal growth but also always provide you with inspiration on what you want to talk about.

I don’t push myself to create content. The days it comes naturally, I’m all there, when it doesn’t, I allow myself rest. It’s worked well for me for almost a decade, so I trust this process.

What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring digital creators or influencers?

Take your time. It’s not a race. I think that’s something that’s personally taken me not just through the digital space but through every aspect of life.
