Introduction

Series Name - Legacies

Season - 2 (2020)

Episodes - 16

Synopsis - Spoiler Alert!

Season 2 will be showing us a world without Hope Mikaelson and all the chaos that goes along with her. Hope will be shown in the dark dimension trying to find her way out and back to school knowing that no one would remember.

The season is again filled with new monsters, more romance and emotional surprises than before. It welcomes a new vampire named Sebastian (played by Thomas Doherty) and Professor Vardemus (played by Alexis Denisof) who takes over the Salvatore School as its new principal.

The season will also be featuring Hope’s aunt, Freya Mikaelson back in New Orleans and Uncle Kai who finally ends up escaping the Prison world.

A Glimpse into a World Without Hope Mikaelson

It’s summer vacation back at Salvatore School, people and especially Landon has forgotten all that happened until now and the night before. Mystic Falls has become a calm, quiet and lovely place again with all monsters and the Malivore pit gone.

Hope being the most significant character of the series, her being forgotten affects how every other character lives their life in Mystic Falls. With the most powerful person gone, all others have to take on a little bit more responsibility than before in defeating the existence of Malivore.

It is kind of tragically heartbreaking but also beautiful. However, the plot feels incomplete and something missing in it with all the chaos gone.

You will find the characters still acting in their own way, some in self-destructive ways (juggling with their past traumas, emotional problems and daily hassles) and some in beautiful ways who find new love and new life interests.

Alyssa Chang - The Snarky Personality

There has been a new admission into the Salvatore boarding school, a student witch and instigator of drama among her peers, Alyssa Chang. She is famous for her snarky, intelligent and egotistical personality.

A narcissist who believes she is the main character and the most important person in her own mind, never backs down from a challenge or misses an excuse to show off.

She has a complex history to start with, projects unusual behaviors, is subject to a lot of emotional distress with relationship management problems and likes to be ruthless and evil.

She is also one of the main antagonists of Season 3 (ongoing) of Legacies in partnership with The Necromancer.

Dark Josie - Katherine of Legacies?

From Kind to Evil: Nothing like the real Josie, everything that Elena once was- good natured, kind and a borderline naive. On consuming the dark magic Josie became ‘Dark Josie’- someone devoid of rules, human-life and boundaries with a hotshot attitude and a chaos-causing personality.

Dark Josie perfectly portrays what Katherine Pierce (doppelganger to Elena) once was on The Vampire Diaries. Josie becomes a baddie who has lost her humanity and is now considered a monster or villain of the week.

The real Josie hides in her subconscious out of fear to avoid confronting her dark side or the alter-ego as she was afraid that being powerful also meant being Evil.

Highlight of the Season - Evil can only be as powerful as you let it be

We are taken to Josie’s subconscious where she is living her cursed-princess fantasy while Hope as the knight in shining armor takes on the Little Red Riding (Hood) Witch role to help the real Josie fight her evil side. Dark Josie plays the role of a Big Bad Wolf Queen while real Josie is deep in sleep.

Back at the Salvatore School, Alaric and the Super Squad commit to their risky plan to get Josie back despite the potential consequences.

The Bottom Line

This season is remarkably drama-free which makes it better than the previous season with a lot of action planning and teamwork on the course in spite of their worst impulses.

The series has much more potential, is definitely fit for audiences of all ages and won’t be much of a disappointment to the fans of its parent series.

Though the start of the season may be boring, the plot develops faster with fantastic new actors, great job on expanded development of each character and unexpected turns.

My ratings for this season - 4 on 5
