Aakriti Khosla - There Is Nothing Is Better Than To Feel Free and Move Forward (Psychologist)

I have always been aimless yet ambitious at the same time in life. I still explore and do what fascinates me. But this one field completely changed my entire life’s perspective. Initially, I used to think of getting rid of this as it seemed a lot complicated and difficult to cope up with.

Tell us about your background and journey?

I was born and brought up in Delhi and later shifted to Noida. I have been an introverted yet keen and inquisitive child. I have pursued my graduation from Psychology Delhi University and Masters in Clinical Psychology from Amity University.

This is how my journey started from being an ambitious child with dreams in my eyes to become a Counseling Psychologist with spirituality in my heart. My life’s journey has been with endless obstacles throughout though I could manage to somehow make it smooth and chose to keep going.

I am Known as Counselling Psychologist, Mandala art therapy practitioner, an EFT practitioner and I believe in learning and healing through creative ways rather than building things with technicality and live life in overthinking and calculations.

Moreover, I love spending time dancing as I have been into professional dancing. This is why I have expertise in

”Expressive arts therapy” as nothing is better than to feel free and move forward

I am a state-level Shooter as well and that’s my biggest and rare area of interest or you can call it my “Passion” along with dancing.

There are multiple aspects we come across and cannot always fetch all of it along with us throughout. However, my perception is a little different as I think it’s important to believe in yourself and be sure in your thoughts which would make it easier to implement your ideas and effectively achieve things.

I would simply end it with ‘never stop yourself from taking risks or trying something new as everything has something to give you for life’.

What led you to take up this career path?

I have always been aimless yet ambitious at the same time in life. I still explore and do what fascinates me. But this one field completely changed my entire life’s perspective. Initially, I used to think of getting rid of this as it seemed a lot complicated and difficult to cope up with.

But eventually, it all started happening the way I actually needed it to and my interest itself went into the direction where I felt happier than ever to use my skills and help people in a right and positive direction. The more I explored, the more I felt the need to get into the depth of creating something real yet unimaginative.

Now I feel blessed to be where I am today while boost myself every day to work even harder and build my creativity to be the change.

What are some common myths in society about psychology?

Well there are more myths than reality when we talk about psychology

“Psychologists can read a person’s mind the minute they meet them”

“If psychologists open up or express their emotions then it's difficult for them to deal and manage other people’s emotions”

“Psychologists can easily hypnotize you”

“Psychology is not really a science”

“It’s easy to understand but not easy to hold as a profession”

These are some common major myths that we deal with almost every day and I guess, we are still working hard to spread more awareness and let people understand and overcome these myths. It’s important to understand things rather than living a life on assumptions and judgments.

How can people practice mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the most deeply relaxing practice that each person should be a part of, understand oneself better, build a deep connection with your soul, and get clarity in thought process and life directions. We can practice mindfulness with meditation, with artistic ways, with a mandala, with yoga, dance, and music. It works the best when practiced in creative ways. Some helpful techniques:

1. Eat mindfully

2. Walk mindfully

3. Observe your breathing

4. Connect with your senses

5. Pause between actions

6. Listen wholeheartedly

7. Get lost in the flow of doing things you love

8. Meditate daily

9. Travel or mix up your routine

10. Observe your thoughts and emotions

What are your tips for people who want to practice this profession?

Psychology as a profession seems very smooth and fascinating but deep inside it's altogether a different world where we try to connect with reality. A person needs to work upon skills and values to be a great psychologist.

Psychologists should have good knowledge about the profession, should have good listening skills, patience and understanding skills, and an empathetic attitude towards clients. Most importantly a person being a professional, other than working with clients, needs to work on oneself to stay clear with the thought process and has the understanding to deal with life situations better.

“The most important thing to keep in mind is that every person should remember while stepping in this profession , it’s not about providing solutions to the client’s issues/problems, the profession is mainly is to guide them the right direction, help them manage their emotions and get clarity of their thought process to lead a better and healthy life.”

Is work-life balance a myth or reality according to you?

Work-life balance is not just a buzzword. It is possible to achieve balance but it’s up to you to make it happen. If your company pushes you to do more, it may be time to move on for your better growth. In many ways, however, we’re our own worst enemy.

We say that a work-life balance is meaningful for daily achievements and enjoyment in each of our life quadrants-family, friends, work, and self, when we keep a capability to enjoy the process more rather than pushing our boundaries towards no end.

How according to you can one manage stress?

It’s hard to get overwhelmed once in a while, juggling work, family, and other commitments. One can become too stressed out and busy, but one needs to set time aside or our mental and physical health can suffer.

I would always suggest some helpful techniques to manage stress better and be free in mind from all the unwanted thoughts or baggage.

*Exercise

*muscle relaxation

*deep breathing

*healthy eating

*slow down and calm

*taking a break

*make time for hobbies

*talking about your problems

*go easy on yourself

*eliminate your triggers

*expressing yourself

*healthy communication

*Building confidence and self-esteem

These techniques will always help a person to manage stressful situations or at least develop that strength to fight stressors and lead a positive healthy life.
