Your Dreams Are Mine Now is a beautifully written love story of two teenagers. Though it is a fictional tale everyone can relate to it so well and it draws inspiration from a real-life incident that happened in Delhi. Yes, Delhi’s Nirbhaya Rape Case that shook the nation by storm a couple of years back. The main characters of this book are a small-town girl Rupali Sinha and a typical Delhi guy Arjun.

About the author

Ravinder Singh was born into a Sikh family in Kolkata, spent his childhood in the small town Burla in Odisha. After his post-graduation in Business Management and working for a while, he gave a hand to his writing. He is best known for his debut novel – “I Too Had A Love Story” which was based on his life.

About the book

The story starts with Rupali Sinha, a small-town girl from Patna. She is someone who has the courage to have a dream and also the strength to fulfill that dream. She is excellent in academics and that’s why she decided on a dream of getting into a college she always wanted to join.

So, her hard work paid off and she stepped in DU. She is different from other Delhi girls, not a bit fashionable, a simple girl whose simplicity can be seen in her dressing.

On the first day of college, she decided to plant a “Tulsi” plant and she went to do the same on the college campus. She wanted to see the plant grow as a reflection of growth in her academic life and herself at DU.

While she was on campus, a group of boys appeared and started making fun of her. She got nervous and scared. One of the guys named Arjun doesn’t speak much, he is the male lead character of the story. He is a Delhi guy with a lot of interest in politics and wants to make the world a beautiful place.

Rupali and Arjun were totally on the opposite sides of the Earth in terms of likes and dislikes and in the way they think. As college life passed, they both engaged in a campus scandal together and fell in love with each other.

As in the real world, true love has to face uncountable and extreme situations. Later in the story, what happens to their love story and their career is the saddest and cruel part of the book. The climax of the story is really painful and is enough to make anyone cry.

Some interesting quotes

1.“Stand for what is right and do not let evil persist”

2.“When dreams take shape, sleep runs away”

3.“Being brave doesn’t mean they lack fear. It means overcoming your fears".

4. “The present! It’s so different from the past. The past! It will never come back. Never ever!”

Review

I loved this novel. The narration of the story is easy, understandable with no difficulties, and smooth enough to stick with the book until the end. The characters are well developed, even the side characters are made so smooth which don’t feel like fiction.

Although the novel doesn’t have something new to read the emotions and characters are enough to bind the readers. After all, it is based on Nirbhaya’s case that is a true story.

Well, this story touched my heart and shook my soul at the same time. The warmth of their love and tension between them because of situations, both are well balanced. IT is a good novel but I did not like the end, I personally think the character of Rupali shouldn’t have died. It was depressing, the story could have been even better if both the lovers were united in the end.

Apart from the end, the best part of the story was when both of them, confessed their love for each other. Their feelings, love, need for everything were conveyed in a single line ‘Your dreams are mine now. I guess everyone should read it once, it’s a well-written book. So don’t wait just thinking, go for it.
