Jimmy Sohal - I Have Represented Our Country on the World Stage as a Solo Hip-Hop Dancer (Dancer from India)

Jimmy Sohal

I think we all have different lives and experiences as a dancer and we have to manage and carry forward our craft in our own way, there is no such blueprint or steps to take. Social media is booming and it's right now the best possible way.

1. Tell us more about your background and journey.

Well, I'm 27 an army brat, working as a Bench Sales recruiter along with my Dancing. I'm dancing since childhood but took it professionally since March 2011.

My dream was to be the world's best freestyle dancer and to achieve this goal I have been traveling to many countries. such as Poland (Warsaw), Spain (Zaragoza), France (Paris) Netherlands (Amsterdam). I have been on a TV show Dance India Dance Season-4 (India), Dancing with the Stars (Poland) Along with that I have represented our country on the world stage as a solo hip-hop Dancer

World Of Dance Poland, Warsaw (2018)
World Of Dance Spain, Zaragoza (2018)
World Of Dance, France, Paris (2019)

2. When did you first decide you wanted to pursue dancing and how did you start?

As a kid in school there was an annual function and my classmates want to dance, and at that time I didn't know that dancing is some talent which is rare and dancing was super easy for me I have natural control over my body which I discovered later on, but it seems very easy to me to move the body in a certain way. so it all started by accident.

3. Who is your favorite dancer and why?

I have learned a lot from big Dancers but my all-time favorite were "Les twins", they have their unique style and Musicality and the way they move is kind of otherworldly, I admire them and have learned so much from them.

4. Can you throw some light on opportunities one gets as a dancer?

I think we all have different lives and experiences as a dancer and we have to manage and carry forward our craft in our own way, there is no such blueprint or steps to take. Social media is booming and it's right now the best possible way.

5. Is format training required or can one train themselves purely on the basis of talent?

From my point of view, it all depends upon how you look at yourself as a dancer in upcoming years, if you want to be a teacher or a Choreographer then format training is the best way to achieve the desired goal but for me, I have trained myself since 10 years now and I haven't taken any classes because my way at looking myself as a dancer is different. so, both ways are good, one is technical, and the other is spiritual.

6. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring artists?

Hard work and Patience and don't let anyone tell you what you're capable of.

7. Which is your favorite book and why?

The Secret, I'm more into spirituality and the universe and kind of curious about the unknown world. That's the reason I like this book a lot and kinda believe in these things.
