Karen Chayne Sanchez - Social Media Virtual Assistants Do Everything a Social Media Manager Does (Social Media Virtual Assistant from Philippines)

Karen Chayne Sanchez

On my podcast, The Karen Chayne Show I talk about all things working online as a Virtual Assistant and how to get started in this career. I also interview some of the best digital marketing experts related to my industry which includes entrepreneurship, leadership, and personal development.

1. Tell us about your upbringing and journey.

I came from a broken family. It was my grandma who raised me. One of my earliest memories is of my grandma telling me that more than love or wealth or happiness, she wanted me to be strong and independent. She said that I needed to make decisions early in life that would assure that I had choices later in life.

Now that was impactful!  I’ve been independent since she passed away when I was still in high school. Moving fast forward, after graduating from college, I started trying to find some opportunities to earn money online. One of them is working as a Virtual Assistant. But my journey was not easy though. As I got into my career, there were several times I did not get the job I had hoped for.

I received a lot of rejections, but I did not let my rejections define me because I believe that being rejected from something is being redirected to something even better. I keep on going, I did not stop. I keep on learning, keep on trying new things, and figuring something out. I created some strategies in order to build my personal brand on LinkedIn.

This helped me a lot in getting more clients as well. I was determined to achieve my goals, this is why I reaped the rewards of my hard work. This is where I am today. I believe that the real success was in the commitment you’ve made to stay in the course, the hard work, persistence, and focus that was exerted in order to achieve the result.

I enjoyed the journey, embraced the challenges and obstacles along the way, and realize that when you achieve your success, it will be that much sweeter because of the journey you decided to take. It’s all about taking some massive action and no matter what obstacles you meet, just keep going.

2.When and how did you decide to be a social media influencer?

Before I started working online as a Virtual Assistant, I started blogging back in 2010. It serves as my online diary where I share everything from my life experiences and my journey online. That was the time when blogging was so popular, it was in the mainstream so I have different blogs in different niches.

During that time, I earn money from blogging through getting paid to blog companies, direct advertisers, and also from Google AdSense. I also get invited to cover an event, whether it’s a business opening or product launching, and help promote it online through my blog and social media pages. Marketers are looking for ways to authenticate their brands using trusted voices: real-life stories.

That’s where I come in as a social media influencer. I find influencer marketing as an effective tool to increase brand awareness and engagement. I believe that as an influencer, you have the power to attract people to your products/services and shape purchase decisions.

3.Tell us something about your podcast 'The Karen Chayne Show'.

4. Being a social media influencer, blogger, podcast host, and manager how do you balance your professional and personal life?

For me, it takes careful planning and preparation. First is your need to know how to manage your time, set your priorities, create a schedule and stick to it, manage procrastination, and eliminate distractions. Finding the right balance between your personal and professional life is essential for your wellbeing and success. It is down for you to better organize your time and make the necessary efforts to achieve this.

5. Can you enlighten our readers about the job roles of a social media virtual assistant?

Social media virtual assistants do everything a social media manager does — except they work from a remote location. They take care of these time-intensive social media tasks so that you can focus on your core business activities. These tasks include:

Creating social media profiles

Interacting with audiences on different social media channels

Curating content and images for your posts

Creating and managing your social media campaigns

Hiring a social media VA helps you grow your social media presence without worrying about your core activities, taking a backseat. Once you find the perfect fit, your social presence will be off the charts in no time!

6. What is your favorite book and why?

Heather Monahan's 'Confidence Creator' book is one of my favorites! It’s so much more than your average, self-help guide. She gives honest, real-life scenarios that she has experienced and provides techniques and solutions to actually make the necessary changes to move forward and live your best life.

I was so impressed by her willingness to share intimate parts of her life, which she did with humor and transparency. This book helps you to have confidence and ability with the right frame of mind and tools to be the best version of yourself.
