Consistency, consistency, consistency. It’s ok to indulge sometimes or have a snack here and there or skip on day of workout, but what you do consistently for months and years counts. Unfortunately, this is one place in life where there’s no shortcut or hack, you have to give your body good nutritious food, movement, and physical fitness would be a by-product of a ‘consistently’ healthy lifestyle.
1. Tell us more about yourself and your profession.
I am Nidhi as you know already I am a practicing nutritionist for the last 12 years and also a certified Fitness Trainer. I also learn and teach Yoga and mindfulness. I co-own a brand can NidSun Wellness which is all about helping people achieve their fitness and body goals.
2. What is your fitness mantra?
Keep it simple and uncomplicated. I think the modern-day marketing jargon has made fitness a complicated mix of supplements, unrealistic food, and glorification of working out too much. I think life is simple, you have to listen intuitively to your body, create movement and food accordingly.
3. What are some of the major misconceptions about diets and exercises?
That you need to work out a lot to get a fit body. Actually, you just need 20 mins to max an hour but consistently 5-6 times a week for months and years. And you are 85% what you eat so diet is the key, but you can’t have kale salad for life so you need to eat what’s native and natural for you. And yes I am a complete believer of ‘Dal-Chawal” and “Ghar ka khana”.
4. How can one maintain a healthy lifestyle?
Consistency, consistency, consistency. It’s ok to indulge sometimes or have a snack here and there or skip on day of workout, but what you do consistently for months and years counts. Unfortunately, this is one place in life where there’s no shortcut or hack, you have to give your body good nutritious food, movement, and physical fitness would be a by-product of a ‘consistently’ healthy lifestyle.
5. How can one build a successful career in your field?
Never stop learning, I like how this field is different from others, in the sense that everybody is so different that whether you’re working on movement or response to food, every individual would respond very differently and you learn something new with every client.
6. What is one piece of advice you would like to give someone who wishes to lose weight?
85% of your weight loss success is your diet. You don’t have to go on a diet, you need to change your diet. I always say Food is neither entertainment nor punishment, it’s nourishment. If you treat it that way and change how you look at food. Life would turn around.
7. How do diets and exercise contribute to overall well-being and happiness?
We all know about happy hormones being released when you workout, but it doesn’t end there. The human body is made for movement, there are emotions stuck inside different body parts, from fear to lack of self-esteem. So, exercise/movement does more than just burn calories, it alters the way to think and feel too.
