Wilhelm Maximilian Wundt is known to posterity as the “father of experimental
psychology” and the founder of the first psychology laboratory where he exerted
enormous influence on the development of psychology as a discipline especially
in the United States.

Psychology is the scientific study of the mental processes and behavior. It includes all the internal or covert activities of our mind such as thinking, feeling and remembering and all external or overt actions and reactions such as verbal and facial expressions and movements.


Role of a Psychologist

The discipline embraces all aspects of the human experience from the functions
of the brain to the actions of nations. It deals mainly with humans but also
sometimes with nonhuman animals. Psychologists are actively involved in
studying and understanding mental processes, brain functions and behavior. 

They study about mind, how it works and how it affects behavior. They will collect information, conduct studies of client’s brain function and behavior, research, identify behavioral and emotional patterns in clients, diagnose disorders, set treatments plans and make referrals.

To start a psychology career, you will need to get at least a master’s degree in
psychology or doctorate to practice in other specialties. To get licensed to practice psychology, you will need to earn to required degree pass a state and/or national exam and fulfill other licensing requirement.

Psychologists will a doctoral degree in an area of psychology, the study of the
mind and human behavior. They are not medical doctors. They can have a PhD in
philosophy or a PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology.
