I'd say Design chose me! I was always inclined towards design and visual studies but didn't train in it formally. I'm a self-taught graphic designer and Illustrator and I started learning about Graphic Design after I started working in Advertising in 2012. I love teaching myself and learning new things every day in my journey.
2. What is the role and scope of work for a graphic designer?
In my opinion, the role of a Graphic Designer is to bring the client's vision to reality. The scope is vast and on most occasions goes beyond just the tools and softwares.
It is about having an in-depth knowledge of the product and the industry. I feel it's up to the designer how much he/ she wants to explore and be the driving force behind the design language of the project.
3. Which are some of the tools & software that a graphic designer must be aware of?
3. Which are some of the tools & software that a graphic designer must be aware of?
Adobe suite has all the tools that you need. I'd say, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign are a must-must!
4. How in your opinion has this profession changed over the years?
Immensely! Graphic design evolves every year. Every new trend helps us to bring unique ideas to life.
5. Do you often have to keep upskilling yourself?
Yes, I try to keep up to date with the latest things happening in Design. Design blogs, magazines really help me.
6. How can one develop a keen sense of design and aesthetics?
Design is a skill that needs to be honed. I'd suggest regularly update the visuals that you consume. What we consume affects what we produce in more ways than we can imagine. So, be picky with who you follow on Instagram and Pinterest or Behance.
Photography has always been a huge inspiration for me in my design work - explore different mediums and study them.
7. Your favourite book and why?
Not a book but all the fashion magazines that I've ever read have been a huge inspiration for me. The colours, the layouts, the designs have always inspired me since I was a kid!
