Dr. Siddharth - Orthopaedics Is a Branch of Medicine That Is Evolving Probably the Fastest (Resident Orthopaedic Surgery From India)

Dr Siddharth

To be a doctor, was a decision that I made very late during my schooling. I had grown up seeing my dad toil really hard, but the job satisfaction at the end of the day was great. On taking a keener interest in the field, I decided to opt for medicine, though I loved mathematics as a subject the most.

1. Tell us about your upbringing, background and journey?

I was lucky enough to be introduced to the world of medicine, my father being an orthopaedic surgeon himself. I had a role model for life in him. Mother is my first teacher in life and he took care of us siblings, giving us all the necessary freedom in life and during our formative years, to be able to make informed decisions for ourselves. I remain forever indebted to them.

2. Why did you choose to be a doctor and decide what you specifically want to do?

To be a doctor, was a decision that I made very late during my schooling. I had grown up seeing my dad toil really hard, but the job satisfaction at the end of the day was great. On taking a keener interest in the field, I decided to opt for medicine, though I loved mathematics as a subject the most. Once I had decided on being a doctor, being an Orthopaedic surgeon was an easy choice. In my view, no other branch provides the blend of the adrenalin rush resulting from dealing with critical trauma care, the job satisfaction at the end of the day.

3. We salute your work during the pandemic, where did you get the inspiration to work so hard?

Orthopaedics is a branch of medicine that is evolving probably the fastest. You have to deal with challenging trauma cases. Patients of all age and spectrum come to you with problems that may be acute or old, expecting you to do magic. And apart from dealing with the complaints, you have to keep the patient’s spirit high too. Maintaining that balance in my view is very important.

4. How do you expect digital health to grow over the next 5 years?

Like I said, medicine is an ever-evolving field. When it comes to Ortho, we have innovations and updates coming in at a very quick rate. And you’re expected to be on top, remain acquainted with every update. I guess, you should always be on your toes, reading as much as you can, books and papers, and learn from every available opportunity.

5. What are your concerns about Digital Health? Can you let us know anyone application of Digital Health in your country which has impressed you?

Well, it has been a very hard year for everybody. Our inspiration came from all around, watching our colleagues work hard as front liners, to seeing our people and their families be plagued by this, there was never a second option. You have to respond when duty calls.

Well, digital health is a two-edged sword. It should be used very judiciously, especially amongst non-medicos.

6. What is your message for aspiring doctors and the young generation? Which is the best medical college according to you?

It’s not a message, more of a request. The world of medicine still remains the most superior, rewarding and satisfying. Do find a good blend of personal and professional life. Take care of your mental health. And be very true to your work.
