When you love your work, you’re passionate about it and have fun with it, trust me you will only do it for your happiness and not run after success or money because they will come to you when you start getting joy with your work. My all-time go-to mantra in my life: All of life comes to me with ease, grace, joy and glory!
1. Tell us more about your company and your journey.
So my company, my baby Planet Media is nearly 3 years old now. It is all related to entertainment media, public relations, social media, management, profilings of our actors from the field of TV, music, Web and films. We strategically decide what things to go out in public at the right time. We manage the crises of an actors life if they face any, and how can we work things out for them in their favour.
Image building is our forte and we look at each client personally to what their profile requires. It has definitely not been an easy journey for me but I am blessed with some great teammates (employees) who have been with me and planet media like their own.
The path that I am at, you will always find some of the other person pulling you down, but keeping your head cool and not take decisions when your heat is something I have learnt and that is something which has got me a long way, stay calm at crisis.
2. How did you come up with this idea and go about executing it?
To be honest, I had worked earlier in an entertainment PR firm wherein I learnt a lot about PR. I understood what it is actually and started enjoying it. When I wanted to make a shift, I was contemplating should I join somewhere else as I was getting many offers to head departments in PR firms or should I start my own. And then I gave myself that 1 month to think about the pros and cons, discussed it with my family and close friends and then one day I took a decision of starting my own firm.
There were many established PR firms already and I was aware of what I’m getting into, but I gave myself 6 months time, if it does good I’ll continue and if not I’ll shut it down. Well, thankfully with gods grace, I’m still here and now my company is nearly 3 years old. It took a lot of planning, patience, persistence in being where I am today. I have slogged myself for hours and well now I’m gradually seeing the results, but trust me it gets harder when u do better. So always remember that!
3. What’s the best part about PR and publicity?
The best part is connectivity and awareness. Connecting with masses with their fans who are always keen on knowing what their favourite actors are up to. Creating news, strategising them in a precise way that one can read and know more about them.
Spreading awareness and learning each day something from such a large number of media be it journalists, paparazzi or reporters. Every day is a learning experience for us here and how to tackle setbacks as well. A beautiful relationship that we build with our clients/actors who eventually become our extended family is something we love!
4. What are the few elements that a brand needs in order to succeed in Public Relations?
Well, the most important thing is patience and persistence. No matter what you feel or how you feel or how badly you wish to give up, but If you have that two major elements there’s nothing stopping you to reach your goal. And also good relationships, honesty/transparency, creativity, time management and a brilliant team to fulfil your vision that can help you succeed.
5. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way, and how did you respond to them?
Hahaha, well I have always told my clients that any publicity is good publicity be it good or bad. But less did I know, that I had to apply that on me also. Lol! I have faced trolling by actors competitors fan clubs, hatred and bad-mouthing that people have done about me from the PR field, a lot of negative comments. Initially, I use to break down and stress a lot, but then they say with time, you do learn to manage and deal with such things.
I started taking things in a positive way, thanks to my relationship with people in this field which helped me realise how to deal with people like this. With time you learn everything and honesty goes a long way. Everything you see is fancy from the outside but trust me from inside it’s quite a maze.
6. What has been the most memorable moment in your career to date?
Honestly, every single day is the best moment for me as every day I get to hear something good about my working style or how far I have come either from the journalists/media or my clients or common people for that matter. I started getting recognition for the work I was doing, trust me there’s no better feeling when your work speaks more than your words.
From having my first client, to when I was approached to be on the cover of a magazine and where I also received my first ever award as the best PR. Things have just been amazing with a lil bump on the way but I’m truly grateful for everything that I have today.
7. What is your idea of success or your mantra in life?
The idea of success and my mantra in my life is, Seek happiness in ordinary day to day things. Take it easy, breathe, refresh. You were not born to succeed all the time in your life but to be happy! First and foremost, you should love what you do.
When you love your work, you’re passionate about it and have fun with it, trust me you will only do it for your happiness and not run after success or money because they will come to you when you start getting joy with your work. My all-time go-to mantra in my life: All of life comes to me with ease, grace, joy and glory!
8. What does your typical workday look like?
So I usually don’t start my day before 10am as I’m working till 4-5am. They say that creative minds work better at night, so Yaa! Hahaha! We usually don’t have day-offs, be it festivals or Sundays. Very rarely that happens to in case there are no releases. There are non stop calls going on for pitching news to our journalists, zoom meetings with the team and seeing what our plan of action for the day is.
Every day there is something or the other so we usually balance that out for every actor so that way everyone is in news at least every alternate day. Back to back press releases are made and then emailing them to be picked up. We are all on our phones throughout tbh. And then I have meetings as I’m also an artist manager, so I usually go for meetings and shoots.
So at that time it really gets hectic for me, as I’m at the shoot in another city balancing my work there and then back in Mumbai for PR and keeping a check on who’s news is going where and which one to break on which platform. It gets exhausting but trusts me I love my work, it’s my passion hence I’m okay to go all out and work at least 16-18 hours a day.
