A vibrant world of warlocks, vampires, fairies and the very own shadow hunters when collide with world of humans or rather mix with the world of humans, an unusual magic unfolds.

Outline of the Series

Based on the book by Casandra Clare ‘The Mortal Instruments’, the story follows the life of Clary Fare who is oblivious to her life as a shadow hunter and is disguised as a human by her mother, who herself is a shadow hunter.

Therefore, on her 18th birthday Clary comes across a bunch of shadow hunters, who only she’s able to see and none of her friends or any other human. She discovers that she comes from a long line of shadow hunters, human-angels hybrids, responsible for hunting demons.

The series goes on to focus on various super-powers and different challenges that they encounter in the process, with the world of various super-powers amalgamating from time to time.

The Ubiquitous World of Hunters

As quixotic as the life of these spirits appear, there is a world of miscellaneous super-powers existing along with the humans, who are even though ubiquitous yet inconspicuous.

Clary who joins Jace, Isabelle, Alec and Jace to rescue her mother from the clutches of Valentine, encounters a starkly different world of vampires, wolves, warlocks and fairies.

The beginning of the show might seem a bit flaky and cliche but hooks you along with the story line further ahead. The shadow hunters who derive their power from drawing ‘Runes’ of varied types either on their bodies or physical objects, are the main focus of the story.

These wild spirits embark on a series of adventures to fight demonic and evil spirits, tagging along the interesting concepts of heaven and hell sometimes.

Seasons and Characters

Well it’s  needless to say that the cast was right on the money, extremely relishable. Each actor stood equivalent to their respective characters and more than the story at times one would watch the show for these artistic bunch of actors.

Right from Clary Fray(Katherine Mcnamara) who drives the show with Jace Wayland (Dominic Sherwood), Alec Lightwood (Matthew Daddario), Isabelle Lightwood (Emeraude Toubia), Simon Lewis (Alberto Rosende) and more such characters that kept adding up throughout the three seasons of series, was intriguing to witness.

There are three seasons to the show with an intact theme but a multifarious story line. Each season covered a different plot, with new challenges and obstacles for the characters to encounter.

The riveting sight throughout was to watch the enemy group become a force to wipe away the evil side. Unfortunately, after season 3 the show abruptly ended, leaving the fans wanting for more. But anyhow the show and the cast lingers around your mind for a few days.

Romantic Angles

Clary-Jace: This pair had an inclination towards each other from the very moment they crossed paths, which was quite sweet as well. Their bond faced numerous challenges along their endeavors. They even though always had a connection, but couldn’t completely get together for multiple reasons. However, whenever they had their time, it was magical. Until the end they are my favourite couple.

Alec-Magnus: So this unique couple, well not because, they are a gay duo but because they had a start, where one can never imagine them to be pair. But as the show courses forward Magnus’s attraction towards Alec and Alec’s distancing from him, due to his non-acceptance of his sexuality, brings a rough patch initially. But the way the two come together, hooks you to their story. And, boy did they not surprise at every course of the tale. For the very first time I was enjoying a gay chemistry.

So, along the journey you get to witness a list of other romantic angles, the characters going around in circles and dating each other like every other fictional show.

Picturisation and Background Score

Writing a book with fictional creativity and eye-candy characters is a thriving endeavor to achieve in itself. But to recreate the whole thing on screen is a different challenge altogether. The beauty of creating runes and that to humongous variety is supreme, the whole world of these super-powers is ethereal.

For me every time a new concept arrived just before I would feel, this couldn’t get anymore interesting, I would instantly be hooked to it again. And maybe that’s why I binged watched it.

The background score on the other hand was so rollicking and exuberant, in fact it gave me a new playlist, which went along with every scene fantastically.
