A History From Ancient to Modern Art

 

Art is the way of expression or applying human creativity. It is a way through which an artist can show his creativity imagination and communicate express the beauty, the power, the idea of what he observe and perceives. 

Can be in any form it can be in the form of painting dance architecture structures. Hence it can be said that there is no exact definition or description of what an art is?

Art can be categorized in two forms ancient art and modern art. As the time passes and the ideas, creativity changes over the time and every human being sees is the beauty and perceive imagination in their own way.

How Ancient Art Influenced the Modern Art:

Today's Modern art is influenced by the ancient art. Modern art is a style that originated over 150 years ago and includes after that by now attend classic status which includes Picasso, Matisse and Gauguin. The moment they pioneer considered revolutionary and even scandalous that moment was the irony.

As look back as the Renaissance the primary European art movements’ emphasized conventional representation and adherence to the classical forms and that they began to change in the late 19th century.

The artist like Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin expanded the boundaries of the painting soon a movement arose that so to create an entirely new style of art and one way of doing so was to back was to look beyond Western civilization. 

This entirely new style of art is known as modern art. Example Paul Gauguin moved to the island of Tahiti in 1890s. 

There he found inspiration in the islands inhabitants’ landscapes and culture to create artwork that entertains European themes, others look to the culture of the Islamic world but most influential inspiration for come from sub-Saharan Africa as European empire expanded deeper into the African continent.

Its arts facts and art works made either way into the hands of museums and collectors. Time passed and after 20th century more artists followed Picasso's footsteps Constantine Brancusi and Amedeo Modigliani who were influenced by mask and figures from sub Saharan Africa.

Some German expressionist artists were also exposed to African sculptures at museum in Berlin and Munich. There after began to use African aesthetics spiritually to work that combined post impressionist color and technique with abstract elements in styled composition.

The British sculptor Henry Moore saw the Columbian cultures for inspiration. The Pre-Columbian art was a major influence for Joseph Albers, a pioneer of 20th century modernism. 

He created a series of composition like the geometric series. He encountered on his frequent visit to Mexico which was inspiration from ancient cultures initiated as one of the most revolutionary movement in the history of art.

Similarities:

Both the arts reflect the two distinct periods that reflects particular period of history and human lifestyle. These two arts periods have their own characteristics as well as means of expressing human lifestyle in that particular duration of time.

Both arts are two classification of art and very loosely human history along with that it features tells about the human perception and lives in their perspective time.

Difference:

The period of ancient art rangers from the Paleolithic period to the Middle Ages (till the 17th century) and modern art began in the 19th century which covers two world wars. Ancient arts does not have art movements whereas modern includes cubism, surrealism, dadaism, impressionism, expressionism.

Ancient art refers to the form of art which has been produced by the people of advanced culture in the ancient times. Ancient art was famous and found in India, Persia, Palestine, China, Egypt, Greece, Rome and Mesopotamia.

This art can be considered as a history of mankind which showed in all the forms of writing painting poetry etc. Leonardo Da Vinci, the Malibu Painter, Publius Aelius Fortunatus etc are some of the famous artist of the Ancient time.

The modern art was very different from the ancient art as well as popular at the period between the 18th to 20 century. This art period was the time of experimentation, questioning, observing and it got rejected ancient art completely.

Some of the famous artist of the modern art time were Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat etc contributed a lot to modern art during the World War which was a time of chaos, and led them question the things.

Ancient art reflects the particular culture religion, politics and lifestyles a visit place of origin. It produces works of arts that are an identifiable to their distinct. Modern reflects the same elements in a global state.

Ancient art were impersonal and conform to a certain society as a whole whereas modern art is more expressive and less formal than ancient art. It questions were rejected the traditional means, treatment of mind set of creating art. It reflects hardest expressions and perspectives.

Ancient art is unique to one culture and society on the other hand modern art can be produced by any person from any country as it has worldwide and Global appeal. 

There are ancient art forms created for certain purpose either for a valuable piece which later know in historical art or facts where in modern art are often used as pieces for self-expression.

Famous Artwork:

Some of the famous works during the ancient art period are Mona Lisa, Dionysus Cup, The Last Supper, Mask of Agamemnon etc. While in famous work of modern art are the Broken Column, the Starry Night, The Weeping Women and Tree Study etc.

Ancient art requires proper training along with skills to pursue and need precision thereafter in today's time it is known as conventional art. Modern art believes in ideas, creativity, imagination and aesthetic beauty not only this anybody can become artist in modern art. This art is known as Contemporary art.

Cave paintings and Graffiti art are ancient forms of art where as Modern art took the form of Minimal art, Video art etc. Both the art form revealed the lifestyle of human beings and had their own features. Hence ancient art and modern art both had their own appeal and glamour.
