It's always important to start with the basics first and then move on to intermediate and advance courses and never rush or jump. But the best way to learn is on the job learning and gaining the first-hand experience.
Tell us about you and your journey.
I'm an award-winning celebrity stylist and makeup artist. Originally from Pakistan, I started working with my mother Aliya Tipu who is a legendary makeup maestro and well-known celebrity in Pakistan.
I've been in this profession for more than 15 years now and based in UAE. I have my own studio by the name of Aana Khan's Glam Studio. Apart from makeup and hairstyling, I also give makeup masterclasses, do lifestyle influencing and occasionally model selectively.
Why did you choose this career?
Why did you choose this career?
It all came very naturally to me and perhaps it runs in my blood. Seeing my mother I developed an interest in this art very early and once I picked up the brushes I realised I had the talent for it too. And when my Mother saw my talent she encouraged me too and took me under her training.
How can one build a clientele as a makeup artist?
Makeup artistry is an art itself before being a profession. You need to be in love with and passionate about this art. Once you do that, your clients start to see and appreciate the quality and commitment in your work and eventually the word spreads.
What are some of your top makeup tips?
No makeup in the world is good enough if you don't take care of your skin. Always take care of your skin, keep it moisturized and hydrated and always take off your makeup with proper makeup removers.
What kind of job opportunities one can get after becoming a make-up artist?
It depends on the artist's capacity really. One can join a salon on a full-time basis or work freelance on his own terms.
Which professional courses would you suggest for aspiring artists?
It's always important to start with the basics first and then move on to intermediate and advance courses and never rush or jump. But the best way to learn is on the job learning and gaining the first-hand experience.
Your favourite book and why?
I'm not into books at all but I do love to travel a lot and have been to the US, UK, France, Italy, Singapore, Turkey, Maldives, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Saudi, Qatar and Oman and can't wait to resume flying again once the world opens up.
