I love solving problems, being an extrovert and Intuitive thinker, I also like interacting with people to understand how they function and what makes them good at whatever they are doing. I get energy working thinking and solving, it makes me content.
1. Tell us more about your company and your journey.
Rekindle is an exclusive dating app for having been marrieds. People who are divorced single parents or widow/er. I like solving problems especially when it affects a sizable population.
Never wanted to be an entrepreneur, always thought to earn well by working for someone and have a happy life. (Not a bad thought). However interacting with a lot of startup founders, helping them scale kind of urged me to start something of my own and once I took the plunge there was no turning back
2. How did you come up with this idea and go about executing it?
I like solving problems especially when it affects a sizable population. The idea of Rekindle was not only intuitive but also backed by various focus groups and interviews. We designed a simple experiment. Download your profile on these contemporary dating apps as a single male/female and then as a divorced male/female.
You will see a change in user behavior. Current dating apps not only target younger demographics kind of crowding the space but also don’t understand the emotional judgment people go through these dating apps. With the advent of online dating culture and the rise in the number of divorced and separation cases. Rekindle is your safe space.
3. What makes you happiest and most effective when working with others?
I love solving problems, being an extrovert and Intuitive thinker, I also like interacting with people to understand how they function and what makes them good at whatever they are doing. I get energy working thinking and solving, it makes me content.
4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way, and how did you respond to them?
Clearly when you are starting out things you don’t know is much more than things you know. Hence I had faced a lot of problems sorting out admin issues, I am not good at it. Getting various approvals from Facebook and apple as they don’t do dating apps that easily.
It involved a lot of grind and hard work to get the approvals done. Hiring the right people for pennies is the biggest challenge I faced. Yet it was so much fun to embark on that journey made me a better human being
5. One piece of advice that you would like to give to your younger self?
It’s really not bad to spend money on materialistic things, however, one needs to save and plan for the future. Also, I could have read more in my spare time
6. Which is your favorite book and why?
I have plenty but a couple of my favorites: -
a. Influence by Robert Cialdini – It gave me a lot of perspective on how people function, how little changes in your communication has a butterfly effect and evolves into a sizable effect on you and your business.
b. 4-hour workweek by Tim Ferris – This book challenged me intellectually, something I really enjoy. Gave me a lot of perspective about my work-life balance.
