I started cooking in college as a way to make homemade food and cut down on carbs
1. Tell us about your background and journey.
My name is Archit, I’m 26 years old and I live in New Delhi. When I’m not cooking, I lead the digital and design teams at The Mavericks - a PR and Marketing startup that’s headquartered in Delhi.
I love consumer behavior and building communication strategies, so much so that the only posts I save on Instagram are ads. I live with my parents and our 2-year-old Rottweiler named Besan.
2. When did you first decide that you wanted to create content and how did you start?
I started cooking in college as a way to make homemade food and cut down on carbs. I studied in the United States which meant portion sizes were huge and I was gaining way too much weight.
I started easy, by making sandwiches and pasta. But soon enough, it expanded to a huge variety of meals. Once I graduated from college in 2017, I moved right back home because of the changing political scenario in America.
This blog started off as a pet project before I began my first job but it soon became an extension of my creative abilities. Today the blog has a sizable following with content that comes in the form of articles, videos, and even a Podcast.
3. Is vlogging and YouTube content creation a financially sustainable career?
It can be. With the multiple avenues of monetization, it slowly growing to become a viable career. However, unlike other freelance careers, employment contracts and rules of engagement are very scattered in the content creation market for now. While there are some rules coming in, it mostly helps users identify branded content with organic content. However, creator protections are still very scarce.
4. Who is your favorite creator and why?
J. Kenji Lopez Alt. He has a lovely book called “The Food Lab.” The Food Lab is one of the most scientific books out there. He is meticulous about trying to understand why he cooks in a certain way, and in fact, also talks through how recipes can be made differently.
5. How and where do you find inspiration to churn out content?
Lots of research online and understanding the demands of my audience informs me about what kind of content I would like to produce.
6. What does your typical day look like?
Weekdays are largely work full time and then content edits in the night. Over the weekends, I spend time producing new content for the blog.
7. Which is your favorite book and why?
'The Food Lab' by J. Kenji Lopez. As I mentioned above the reason I love this book is because it is the most scientific book I have ever read with the about the profession I am passionate about.
8. What piece of advice would you like to give to future and aspiring creators?
Passion and Perseverance will drive you forward. Just follow your Passion meticulously and the end would be worthwhile.
